Need some reassurance Please!

Hi Everyone,
I know I don't post all too often, but I was really hoping for some advice. I recently had a mole removed from the bottom of my foot (Dr. suspected it looked cancerous) and he had to cut rather deep in order to get the root. There are 10 stitches, and of course being on the bottom of my foot I can't walk directly on it, so I don't pull the stitches. Before having it done, the Dr. told me I could probably do the elliptical/recline bike for exercise. However, I can't even get a sneaker on w/o pain, or putting it in a weird position, and I want it to heal. Dr. will be checking it tomorrow and the plan is to remove them on Thurs. which will be 14 days. So I haven't done any cardio in what will be two weeks on Thurs. I have been doing something every day with upper body, or some kind of floor work. I've been using the Gym Styles but dividing it into one or two parts a day, so I can still work something each day. I'm just worried about not having any cardio for so long, I've definately noticed I miss the endorphins.x( Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced anything similar or could offer any reassurance. Sorry this was so long, thanks so much for listening :), Lisa

My humble opinion is that you should let it heal and well. I had a mole taken off of my back last year, it was big, the doctor thought it was melanoma so he took a chunk with 14 stitches. Turned out to be nothing at all, thank God, but I did not listen when he told me to let it heal completely before starting up exercise again. The areas was smack between my shoulder blades. I ripped the stiches and they had to be restiched. It healed poorly and it took a while. Needless to say it is UGLY and now I have to have a laser procedure to fix it. Since yours is on your foot, please let it heal. You won't be sorry. By the way, was everything okay with the biopsy?

Relax and heal. I've gone for at least 10 days (vacations) or longer (family illness) without regular cardio workouts and am always amazed to find my level of fitness about the same as my last workout. Your endurance may be lower then usual, but you'll be as fit as you had been in no time.

Oh Mikkia I'm so sorry about the issues you had to deal with on your back, that's terrible. To have to have it restitched must've been painful. Yeah, I'm trying to be careful about letting it heal, even though it's hard. But now I've had several people tell me that even when the stitches are out, I will have to be careful even walking on it? This does make me nervous. I will get the results to the biopsy tomorrow, I sure hope it's nothing. Maybe that's what I should really be worrying about huh? Robin, thanks so much for the reassurance, I guess I've just never had this long of time off away from cardio (I'm a cardio junkie) so I really needed to hear that. Thank you both,:) I will let you know how it goes, Lisa

I agree with the PP. I had to take off over three months a while back and actually lost weight (and inches, go figure!) and did not find my cardiovascular fitness to be poor when I started back. In fact, my first workout back was a 6 and a half mile run. Now, needless to say, I felt like a blob and missed working out terribly (and because of not being able to, I was definitely more moody), but for medical reasons, I couldn't and just had to let go of the guilt. I was able to walk the dogs, but nothing really aerobic. I had always feared not being able to do crazy cardio (and never would have taken that much time off...I feel guilty when I take two days a week instead of one), but this experience was good for me because it showed me nothing horribly tragic would happen if I did. Also, I can't say my eating habits are that good (they're actually kind of bad) and I didn't change what I ate.

So, at least I know it's not the end of the world and I will not balooon up if I have to take time off again.

Just my two cents.

Lorie
