Hi Everyone,

First I just want to say I've been reading the posting and everyone seems so helpful.

My nam is Tammy and I would like to try Cathes' videos. I currently work out to doona richardson and Karen voight.

My goal is to loose 10 pounds or so. And to Firm and tone what I got. I woould like a little definition.......but I do not want to bulk.

Now I'm not an advanced exerciser but I'm not a begginer. As far as step goes.....so so.

Which tape or tapes do you reccommed and why.

I would like to thank everyone who responds in advance.......

Thank you

I can't wait to here your suggestions....so I can order my tapes.

Hi Tammy,
I would definitely recommend starting with the "How to get in shape for your wedding" video. Don't worry about the wedding stuff if it doesn't apply to you. I did not find it bothersome at all. You're too busy hard at work for the wedding talk to distract you. This video is MAJOR FUN!! Good music, fun choreography. It's still probably my favorite video (although I love every Cathe video I have). This video has approximately 45 minute step cardio workout plus a 45 minute strength training portion. I got very good results with the strength training and it's probably considered Cathe's easiest strength video!
I don't know how much money you're able to spend, but if you can, I would also recommend the PS series. It is 3 videos. One for back & biceps, one for chest and shoulders and triceps, and one for legs. These are about 40 - 45 minutes each. So, if you're crunched for time, you might want to try Cathe's newest 6-pack where she does cardio and strength training (one body part per video) in approximately 55 minutes.

Oh well, I guess I've confused you. If I had to pick for you, I would pick the Wedding video plus the PS series. Or I would buy the new 6-pack. Then you have a workout for each body part and 5 cardio workouts to choose from to mix and match. Lots of variety in this 6-pack. And 4 of those 6 tapes contain an ab workout which is simply incredible!!!Everyone is saying that they are getting great results from the 6-pack. Hope this helps!
Good luck to you.

RE: Hi Tammy!!

Lisa has some great suggestions!! I'd also like to add to the list!! To get your metabolism humming you may want to try Interval Max. They say interval training burns more total calories. Also, I would recommend Maximum Intensity Cardio(has Hi/Lo and step) and Maximum Intensity Strength. MIS, is a total body strength and endurance workout you could do 3 days a week. I also agree with Lisa on the 8-pak, I'm currently on this rotation(into my 4th week) and I've lost a total of 2lbs and 2 3/4 inches off my body. Lisa already told you how the 8-pak works, so I won't repeate, I will say though that I do 2/day. My schedule allows for it and I like working my muscle groups at least twice a week. I can't afford to get too bulky either I'm only 5'1" so I know what you mean. Ok, I'm gabbing now, this is my $.02. Let us know what you decide:)!

Hi, Tammy! Welcome to the forum :)!
From what you say in your post, I'm thinking TWV (the wedding video) would be a good place to start. I'm familiar with Karen Voight and this video would probably be a good transition into Cathe's stuff. It's the first one I got, and compared to her new six pack, which is great, the intensity is lower and the choreography a bit less complicated. Don't be mistaken though--it is a great workout, and the strength part is great, too.
As for other tapes of Cathe's: I love Stepworks and Powermax, but you really need to keep in mind that these are very advanced tapes (I mean ALL of Cathe's stuff, not just these two)! With many of the moves, you may want to modify to lower impact moves, so that you are easing yourself in to them. If you love coplex choreography, you will love her stuff. Plus, it seems that most of her step tapes, if not all of them, are broken into segments, so you can work up to doing the whole thing.
As for strength, MIS and PS are both effective, fun and wonderful! Remember, you don't have to start out using a barbell, and don't compare the amount of weight you are lifting to what the women on the video are lifting!! Modify, modify, modify!! :)
If you do keep in mind the modification idea, maybe the Six Pack (or eight pack) would be a good idea! It is such a value, and you can ease into it just as well as the other tapes. You may want to post in the Ask Cathe forum--she'll most likely answer you, and with great advice! :)
Hope this helps,
Wendy

Hey Tammy

I would recommend Interval Max as probably the best step tape to start with only because the choreography is somewhat easier to follow and modify for an intermediate stepper...close to Karen's Energy Sprint (more challenging, believe it or not). :-wow

If you like Karen's Power Pack Video, you will like Cathe's Maximum Intensity Cardio. (The first half hour is old-fashioned floor cardio--you don't even need to do the second half hour of step to get a good workout if you don't want to) AND
Cardio Kicks. Even if you really don't like traditionally Kick-boxing, this tape is all floor and you can do it normal high-low without doing all the fancy kicking.
Good luck and enjoy! Please let me know what you think...you are the first Karen Voigt fan I have come across...I love her too.

RE: Hi Kistina!!

I like Karen Voight also!! I've got Strong-N-Smooth Moves, Energy Sprint and Your Personal Best. I haven't heard of the Energy pak. What's that like?

RE: Hi Kistina!!

The Power-Packed Workout is a 60-minute high-low straight floor aerobics tape. It is very high energy, lots of fun, about 30 minutes of high impact total, the rest is warm-up and cool down. There is also 12 minutes of "abominables" at the end.
The moves are a little dancy in spots...moreso than Stong-n-smooth. You might take a while to learn all the moves, but it is doable. This tape is harder than personal best. However, I think it is still easier than Cathe, This is fun fun fun, more like old-school aerobics classes were before step burst on the scene. You might want to tackle this one before Cathe. Although it is still advanced, it isn't AS advanced.
If you want to try something new, karen also has StreamLine Fitness (blend of floorwork, stretches, abs, and yoga) and
YogaScuplt, a non-intimidating yoga workout that is beginner to intermediate..helps you build those core-stabilizatin muscles everyone is so big on these days. Streamine is a little easy for me, but I am pretty much an advanced-type person. I love YogaSculpt for the mornings when I don't feel like doing cardio but I want to do something.
She's online now at www.karenvoigt.com
Hope this helps! :)

Hello Tammy and welcome :). You've got some great suggestions but I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth! For step I'd recommend StepHeat and TWV. The choreography is easy but the tapes are intense+++. For weights, the PS and MIS are fantastic and results will come quickly. I would also recommend Bodymax as you get step/power circuit with lower body toning/upper body workout. It's moderate choreography but a killer ( 90 minutes long :) ). Have fun choosing
