Need New Dumbbells for Intensity Series?

I need some new plates for my barbell and some new dumbbells but I'm not sure what weight to get. Currently my heaviest dumbbell is 12 pounds. For lat rows, I use the 12 pound dumbbells with a 5 pound ankle weight around my wrist and it's not heavy enough. So I was thinking about buying one 20 pound dumbbell. For all of the Cathe strength tapes I have, it seems like I use the barbell for anything really heavy. But I'm wondering if Cathe uses dumbbells more in the intensity series. If so, do you guys think I would need 15# dumbbells and 2 20# dumbbells and maybe 18# dumbbells? I really hate to buy a bunch of heavy dumbbells because they take up so much space.

How heavy do you guys go for lat rows? Would I go heavier than 20#? Should I buy one of those little bars and use the plates from my barbell instead?

You use the barbell only on PLB, but you may need more plates because with these new Pyramid tapes it is posible to go heavier that you have before. I have found this to be the case on both PLB and PUB.

On PUB, Cathe only uses dumbells, and I am using the whole range from 3 pounders up to 20 pounders. This is the first time I have been able to use more than 15 pound dumbells on any upper body work, so I am excited. If you are stronger than me, and most people are (!), you may indeed find you need to go buy more dumbells. It's worth it in my opinion: PUB is my favourite of all the new videos, because it alone is helping me reach new levels in my bodily strength.

You'll need 2 x 20 pound dumbells for this tape, the one will not be enough. Cathe does bent over lat rows with both arms going together! Sorry! And since this is a pyramid tape, where you go up and down through the sequence of weights, you can figure on needing those 2 x 15 pound dumbells too.

Why not wait until you get the series and preview, then do it one time through, then you'll have a better sense of exactly what you will need. The stores aren't going to run out of dumbells any time soon!

I currently don't have a barbell(am shopping for it)so I use only dumbnbells for all Cathe's stuff. The weights range from 5-25#'s. I mostly use the 8-20#'s for Cathe's tapes. Susan
