Need martial arts shoe advice

Good morning everyone. I'm signing myself up for Kenpo Karate classes next month. I've contacted the studio they say you either go bare feet or wear non marking martial arts shoes. Since I'm massively OCD esp about feet and getting some sort of fungus or athletes foot I have to get shoes but all the shoes I've found online don't have a difference in sizes for mens and womens and I know that cannot be possible. A mens 5 is way different from a womens 5, . .right? I'd appreciate any thoughts or reccomendations.
Thanks again!

That's strange.

I wonder if the martial arts shoes you're finding only come in men's sizes?

I think in general, a man's size 7 corresponds to a women's size 9, for example (go to a shoe store to check). Just go down 2 sizes, and that should be close to the size you need (again, check out fit at a shoe store to be sure).

HTH!

Thanks Kathryn, . . I sorta live in the middle of no where. No shopping malls we only have 1 sporting good store and it is very, very limited with regards to selection. I'll go there today and see what they have.

I have adidas shoes for taikwondo and they do only come in mens sizes - you have to estimate your size but usually it is down a size from the women's sizes. For the shoe I have - I normally wear a 10-11 in women's athletic shoes and I have a size 9 in the addidas.

These shoes are very popular in martial arts classes and also much less expensive:

Their sizing is european but they have a sizing chart on the site to help you.

Good luck!

Perfect!!! Just what I was looking for. I'm off to order! Thanks!

Most martial arts gear is sized for men. I didnt' realize this when I bought my first set of sparring gear so I bought everything in a medium...I kept losing my hands and feet and every time my instructor would hit me in the head, my head gear would twist around so that I couldn't see. :)
