Need advice on eating before an endurance or weight workout

I workout early in the morning before I get ready for work. Most of the time I just have coffee and then hit the workout. If I am doing a weight workout or and endurance workout, should I be eating before hand? Also, if I should be eating, how long before I work out do I need to eat and is a granola bar sufficient or half of a peanut butter sandwich?? I am usually in a fog until I start the workout.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Shumatea! I think regardless of any type of workout, you should have some fuel in your system to not only support the workout but to just start the day off with energy and a clear mind.

Try to eat 90 minutes before your workout if you can. I don't go into specific diet plans on the forums but I will share with you one of my favorite breakfasts.... a cup of non-instant oatmeal, one egg (two egg whites) and a 1/2 cup of orange juice. This gives me good energy for the morning. If you can't eat 90 minutes before you workout, then you may need to eat a lot less. One of my favorite quickie bites is peanut butter smeared on a sesame rice cake along with a peeled granny smith apple. Be sure to eat after your workout too to refuel your hard working muscles.

Good Luck!
