need a nice barbell

I in general don't want too many equipments at home becuase I belong to a gym and my workout area at home is a bit limited. But I'm worried that if I didn't have proper equipments I might not get the result that I want from doing Cathe's weight workouts. I now have dumbbells up to 20 lbs but no barbell or ball.

So I'm breaking down and thinking about buying a ball and a nice barbell. I bought a cheap barbell set from Amazon but got rid of it because it wasn't easy to use.

I'm willing to pay more to get something I really like and will use. I'd appreciate all suggestions and advice.
Thanks,
Susie

I ordered the one from Wal Mart that people had posted about. It's 19.95 plus s/h if they don't deliver to a store near you. The only thing it doesn't come with are 2.5# weights, but you can buy those at WM for about $1.40 each. It works really well with Cathe's workouts. I was afraid ordering one so cheap would mean it would not be good quality, but I have found it to be just fine.

I've had mine from wal-mart (same one mentioned above) for almost three years. I like it. I was worried at first (cheap = waste of $$) but I have been pleased with my investment.

Would someone please post the link to the $19.95 barbell set b/c I'm unable to find it on Walmart's site.

Thank you

Are the weights on the Walmart set rubber coated?

Does it use a clip or spinner bolt to hold the weights?

Do any of you add some sort of padding to the bar?

Sorry so many questions. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Sandra

The weights are not rubber coated, but they are plastic (probably filled with cement or something). They also give you six clips to hold the weights. I don't use any padding. I just got finished doing MIS and it was fine. It works for me and the price was right!

well sandra they are plastic but not rubber coated. they use the clips to hold the weights, . .and the bar itself is not as good a quality as the troy which is thicker with a nicer grip. if you don't mind spending the extra money i would go for the troy. the quality is far better, . however lets face it they both are weights and they both function the same. unless you plan on lifting like arnold schwarzenegger and getting that much use out of it i'm sure the walmart set will work just fine. the walmart set also goes in 10lb to 5 lb increments, . . i like the option of 2 1/2 lb, 7 1/2 lb, and 5 lb plates that the troy set lets you do. of course you could always just buy extra plates seprately at your local sporting goods store.

Thanks so much for the info! You have all been such a help. I am sorry to jump into someone else's post, but hopefully it was helpful to the orginal poster too.

Thanks again,:)
Sandra
