Need a DVD recommendation...

I recently ordered the Timesaver 5 Day Rotation DVD and today I tried the first two workouts. Right now I am thinking that perhaps this DVD was not the best choice for me. I was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY lost trying to do the step workouts and am finding that perhaps my living room is just too small to properly do them, anyhow (yeah, it's that teeny). And I found the Hi-Lo work to be a bit too high-impact...I just had breast reduction surgery 2 months ago, so bouncing is still pretty uncomfortable on "my girls."

That said, I REALLY enjoyed the weight-training segments that I did, so I think I may want to sell the Timesaver DVD on eBay and order a different DVD...but which one? I really would like to firm and tone my entire body, but especially my core and arms. I tend to bulk-up fairly easily (especially in my cavewoman-like legs), so something that might be more inclined to create longer, leaner, and defined muscles, rather than heavier ones would really be great. And I don't mind a little cardio, just so long as it is less bouncy (I can do Tae-Bo Advanced with minimal problems...it must be just a bit lower-impact by comparison) and not quite so heavily coreographed.

Any recommendations?

TIA,
Kirsten :*

I recently ordered the Timesaver DVD too... while waiting on the new beginner/intermediate dvd's to ship... and I can tell you, while I am not completely new to Cathe.... I have some of the older, little easier step tapes, I struggle with the step sections on Timesaver as well... and I also have an extremely small workout space... but, I am modifiying alot of the moves and the more I do them, the easier it gets... since I can't, I don't move around as much and I am still sweating and getting a good workout...

If you have not tried workout #4 which is the KPC section on Timesaver... try it... it is a blast... I had never done kickboxing before and I am just in love with that workout... in fact, I am going to order the DVD of KCP just as soon as I can....in fact, the whole Body Blast series.

and being very well endowed too... :).... I have to modify jumps alot... and it is working...

The step is frustrating at first.... and by all means, I am not trying to talk you out of getting another workout.... but, I am finding that I am getting better with the step the more I try.

Hi Kirsten,

I would try out the rest of the Timesaver workouts. I think you will really like Timesaver #4 and #5. There is less impact in these two workouts.

Have a great day!

Candid...since you are recovering from surgery maybe what you should do is save your money for the new workouts that are to be released soon. Most of the Cathe workouts are advanced and call for jumps, jacks, power lunges, etc. I can see where these moves would NOT be good for you right now given the surgery you just had. KPC is a different workout (kickboxing style) and would be easy to modify the jumps to something else for you right now. But I would do as the other's have recommended and try the lesser impact segments on the Timesaver Dvd. Is it just cardio that you want right now or are you interested in buying more toning type workouts? I highly recommend the Pyramid Upper and Lower Body Dvd and also the Power Hour + Dvd.

Also, try wearing two sports bras to minimize the bounce. I wear one regular sports bra that has cups for separation and then I put a compression type (pull over your head kind) on also and I have very little bounce when doing high impact...this may be more comfortable for you until you are totally healed.:)

I think I may keep it and do that, since that seems doable--plus, I can always mix and match the strength work on the entire disc...and eventually I should be able to do everything on it.

I have heard recommendations for both of those DVDs. What is the aerobic segment of Body Max like on the "Power Hour, MIS, Body Max" DVD like? Is it a bit lower impact than the Hi-Los and is the step work a bit less coreographed? "BC/ME" has also been recommended to me by one person, though another thought the Boot Camp segment might be a bit too high impact. As long as it is no bouncier than "Tae Bo Advanced I should be OK."

I would like some cardio, but would be fine with strictly strength, too.

Hee, I had the surgery to avoid doing that, LOL! But that may be a good solution. The bra I currently wear is basically 2 bras in one (Champion Full Support Sports Bra)...so maybe just waiting a few more months would be the safest idea to protect my "girls."

;)

Thanks everyone for all the feedback!

Hi Kristen...I'm a C cup and I like to wear two sports bras just because I don't like any bounce...and being in my 40's the boobs aren't as perky as they used to be so I have more bounce than I care to admit!:p

I didn't mention Bootcamp only because there are some intervals where you are on your hands (plank/push up style) and doing the moves very quickly. I just thought maybe that type of thing might be painful for you yet. Are you okay with doing pushups yet? BC is a great workout and of course any of the 'air' moves can be modified to lesser impact for you. And the same would go for Power Hour + too. Both of those Dvds are well worth the investment and my favorites.

Heh, mine weren't very perky before surgery...now they look almost exactly the same as they did at 16!
:D
Bootcamp/ME is definitely looking the most interesting to me, simply for the variety of cardio and muscle endurance. Today I did workout #4 on Timesaver and LOVED the kickboxing--it was like Tae Bo Advanced without the insane annoyance of Billy Blanks! So KPC may also be a future purchase.

So far push-ups are ok, it's just the really repetitive jumping-type things that are still a bit rough. Most of the kickboxing-type moves don't bother me since they aren't as up-and-down.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

:)
