Need a book to read

Looking for some book recommendations. I normally read dark fantasy books - vampires, witches, etc. I prefer vampires. The occasional romance fluff novel and the occasional smutty romance book. The only thing I really don't like are mysteries. They just don't work for me. Recently I've read

Gone With the Wind
The Shadow Queen (the 7th Black Jewels book)
Swallowing Darkness (the Merry Gentry series)
The most recent Anita Blake book (title escapes me - it was crap)
Dracula
Lords of the Underworld Series (fantasy romance fluff)
I tried the Dimestore Magic books but couldn't get into them

I don't like Stephen King, and Dean Koontz's books are all the same

Suggestions?

Philippa Gregory's books are great. My favorites so far:

The Other Boleyn Girl
The Boleyn Inheritance

The action is nonstop.

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon-time travel, history, adult romance-no fluff, great characters. No vampires, but standing stones a la Stonehenge, paganism, etc. They are my favorite books ever!

I second the Outlander books - don't be intimidated by their size. You'll wish they were longer. Also, have you read any Charlaine Harris? Try "Dead Until Dark". Her books are totally addictive.

Nan, since you may have liked the earlier Anita Blake series (like I did) and seem to hate the later in the series (like I do) maybe Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson" series would be fun for you. There are four titles in the series so far: Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed and Bone Crossed. They are really fun, and while the first one's (MC) plot was lame, it was still a good read. :)

All sound like good suggestions. I'll have to hit the library or bookstore this weekend. I'll probably stay away from the Dragonlance, though. They are DH's absolute favorite, and I don't want to intrude on his territory on that one. We all need our own "thing" and thats his!

Have you tried Kelley Armstrong's books? She has a series of books that are quite engaging about vampires, wherewolves, etc.: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=kelley+armstrong

Actually Stephen King's - Duma Key was an excellent read. It did not suck like many of his books. Not about vampires but about the supernatural.

I am reading Jane Eyre for the first time, Leanne recommended it, her class is reading it. After a slow start trying to get used to the language...I am loving it!
My next read? Howard Stern's 'Miss America"...:p

The Book Thief. I just finished it Tuesday night and sobbed for about an hour. I would blow my nose, wipe my eyes, only to start the process all over again. Excellent character development. I guess that's why the ending had me falling apart, I couldn't bear to part with them.:(

The Shack...

My new favorite book is The Shack by William P. Young...it's amazing and a best seller. No vampires or dragons, but a great mystery novel that really tugs at your spirit and makes you think.
