navel piercing

I just pierced my belly button and was wondering, it bled seemed like a long time, and it pretty tender, but my main question is how soon could you workout with it, I want to do some ball work and lay on the ball to do some of the workouts. For others with belly button piercing how long did it take for it to heal.

Mine took about 4-6 weeks to heal. I got it done when I was 17(31 now), but only did cardio back then. I never had to lay on it unless I was on the beach or sleeping...lol! I would suggest to hold off laying directly on it until the tenderness goes down some. As for working out just do whatever feels comfortable.

It took my daughter over 2 weeks before she could lay on it, in bed, say. A month before it was totally healed. She did it when she was 16.

i worked out the next day.... i was very careful when i laid on the ball for several days though

i'm a stomach sleeper and had to sleep kinda cocked to the side..

it took several weeks/months to heal completely (they say they can take up to a year...

Had mine done about 5 years ago. If memory serves I was able to lay on mine after about 2 weeks. However, laying on the ball, you may find that your belly sticks to the ball & pulls on the piercing. Ouchie. I would test it a little at a time & see how you tolerate it.

I had a fast recovery. I pierced mine on a Wednesday. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights I slept on my back because the weight of the barbell pulling on my skin hurt if I went to my side. However, I did abs work on Thursday and Friday. By Saturday I could sleep on my side or stomach, and on Monday I took a full 60-minute Pilates class which included many exercises done lying on my stomach. Occasionally I'd get a sore/slight burning feeling but I was able to do the class without a problem.

I was vigilant about my piercing aftercare - washing twice a day with a mild antibiotic soap and soaking the site in water mixed with sea salt (iodine-free) for the first five to seven days. After that I kept up the twice-a-day washings but didn't need the saltwater soaks anymore. My piercing was totally healed in five months.

That is so cool! You'll enjoy showing THAT of in the summer.

I had a fast recovery as well, and hardly suffered any bleeding or tenderness.
My stupid ear piercings caused me more trouble than my belly piercing!.

I can only reinforce the after care procedures, and if there are ANY signs of infection or swelling, go to your GP immediatly. You shouldnt muck around with any infection.

I would also be caucious of any rubbing motions for a few days, as lying on your tum, or your piercing getting caught in your trouser belt when you sit down. Make sure its not caught BEFORE you stand up. OUCH!

And showering or bathing, dry the area completly with a cotton tip

Your ball may not be the most sterile place to lay your belly on right now. Even if it's bandaged, the bandage can come loose.

Thanks everyone, I am so excited to have it done finally, I have wanted it done for SO long. I am going to go out this morning to get me some antibacterial soap to keep it clean, I also use neosporin on it. I used to be a tummy sleeper till my back wouldn't allow me to sleep on my stomach so now I am a back and side sleeper so I didn't have any problems at sleeping with it.

Did the piercer recommend neosporin? The place that did my specifically recommended AGAINST those products. Whatever they told you to do...make sure you do it! Aftercare is more important that anything and it will help you heal faster. They sayt hat you are not totally healed for 6 months to a year but you will see a significant difference in a few weeks and not feel any tenderness.

I also had a great experience. I only had one drop of blood, only b/c I smacked my jeans button against it and I had no other issues. I started with a ring, which was a big mistake, so sleeping on my stomach was not an option for a while. The minute I got the barbell, I was fine with stomach sleeping.

Good luck! Enjoy it! I waited forever to get mine so I know how excited you are that you finally did it :)

My piercer also told me not to use the Neosporin Christine. I was told to wash with Dial AB 2x a day and clean w/peroxide.

I am going to run to the store to get some Dial AB soap after kids go to school. we got one of those body piercing kits and my hubby did my belly button, after that I don't think I will be doing anymore body piercings LOL. I heard peroxide in the readers digest delays the healing process because not only does it kill bad stuff but also kills good skin cells in the process, I was reading about those kits for injuries and it said not to use those and alchol on cuts or scrapes. It said in there to use antibacteria stuff like neosporin. I think the article was in the readers digest a few months ago.

It took mine a few months, 5-6 to totally heal. I just kept on soaking it with the sea salt solution.

But I also did workouts with in a couple days of getting it done.

You can work out w/it right away, just make sure you keep it clean. After your workout douse it in some Bactine & I think you'll be OK.

I agree with the others here about using the AB Dial soap when showering. I got mine done with two of my friends. I still have mine, but both of them had problems with infection, soreness and took theirs out. I couldn't lay on my stomach to sleep or on my ball to exercise for several weeks. My teenage daughter and her friends seemed to have more problems with theirs because they were always fiddling with it and touching it, changing out their jewelry too soon. Keep it as dry as possible. The sea salt soak helps to dry it up and heal. Good luck. Even though I am 40 this year I still like mine. Makes me feel a little bit more exotic.

I got mine done this past summer and it took me almost 4 weeks before I could do stability ball work and even then it hurt a bit. Now I don't even notice it.

Yeah those were the instructions when I got mine done--wash twice a day w/the AB Dial (NOT the liquid Dial for the bath/shower--it has creams in it or something--but the stuff you'd use on your hands), then put Bactine on it twice a day. I also used the sea salt when it got infected & it worked pretty well.

I agree Lynn--I'm 37 & I love my belly ring. I sprung for a diamond one last year I love it so much. I remember when I had it done a few years ago--my boss said "you're not 25 anymore Laura." Duh! As if I needed him to remind me!x(
