Natural Peanbut Butter

After reading so many posts about natural peanbut butter, curiosity got the best of me and I purchased a jar of low fat natural peanbut butter at the food store a week or 2 ago...I had my doubts as to wether it would taste good or not but I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised!:)

I have been a peanutbutter "junkie" since I became pregnant...I eat some almost every single day so I guess I picked a perfect time to make the switch!

Have a great work out!

Hi Wendy,

I recently made the switch to natural peanut butter and found that it did not take long to get used to the taste. I recently tried one with honey added and it has a very good flavor.

When I was pregnant with my daughter 10 years ago (where does the time go?!!) I found that I really enjoyed peanut butter. In the beginning, when I had a lot of morning sickness, I found that it was the only thing that I could keep down, often times.

Good luck!

Love my natural p.b.! To me, I can't taste a difference at all. Can't remember the name of the brand I buy at the health food store, but I don't buy low fat. I use the p.b. as my fat source in my diet, so I want allllll the fat. :)

I love the natural stuff, too. The natural foods co-op that I shop at has a machine that let's you grind peanut butter yourself in your own container. The consistency of the PB it produces is great.

I get the Smucker's All Natural crunchy. I go full fat and calories. What the heck? There's only 210 calories in 2 tablespoons. That's a lot of peanut butter!

I also eat the natural Peanut butter and love it. I put it on celery and one of my favorite snacks is spread 2 Tblsp on a whole wheat flour tortilla and put sliced apples in it and role it up and enjoy.

Natural peanut butter is definately the way to go. I like to swirl it into hot oatmeal. It melts and tastes so creamy and yummy. Also, the combination of oatmeal and peanut butter gives you a feeling of fullness that lasts a long time.

What do they do to the "low fat" natural peanut butter to make it low fat? I don't think I've ever seen a natural low-fat version (most "low fat" PB's add some kind of sugar to take the place of fat). I make my own "lower fat" PB by pouring off about 1/2 the oil from the top of the natural PB when I first open it (not too much, though, or it gets as stiff as hardening cement!)

I could OD on the stuff if I'm not careful! I have it every morning on a whole wheat english muffin and I usually have it for a snack in the afternoon. I like the Teddy brand. I don't buy the low fat because nut oil is good for you. I can't believe all the crap they put in the processed brands like Jiff! Incidentally, I found that placing the unopened jar of PB in the fridge for a few hours before opening it for the first time makes the oil much easier to spread.

i've never come across low fat natural pb!?! i do eat regular natural pb and LOVE it!

It's actually reduced fat as opposed to low fat...still has 12 grams per serving...2 grams of sugar. Definately not as sweet as brands like Jif or Skippy but still tastes great...This may not be the "top of the line", MOST natural of the natural peanut butters out there, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere, right? ;) Also I purchased it at a regular food store, not a health food store so that might have something to do with it...

Have a great work out!

My baby ticker is gone...what's up with that!?!?! x( ;(

I was curious so I read the the ingredients this morning b4 I even read your post...something called "maltodextrin" (to replace the fat) so you were right!:) I have no idea what the heck that is either lol. Beyond that it's just peanuts and salt. Also, the comparison in fat is only a 4 gram difference from the regular natural to this reduced fat stuff so I guess it's not even worth it considering I don't eat a ton of it at a time...I will just go for the regular next time....live and learn! Thanks!:)

Have a great work out!

We are all peanut butter junkies in my house - love to eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon. About a year ago I switched to all natural from Trader Joe's and my husband had a fit - he was so picky about his PB - but now everybody loves the natural. A couple of weeks ago we ran out and my husband picked up some Skippy to carry us over for a few days and we were both shocked at how "fake" and sugary it tasted. And the kids are young enough that they don't know any better!

Since I have been watching my diet and exercising I had been avoiding peanutbutter like the plague b/c of the fat content even in the lower fat kinds and it really never bothered me not to have it...once I became pregnant I REALLY wanted it for some reason so I allowed myself to give in. Early on in my pregnancy I went NUTS (no pun intended! LOL) and was eating far too much of it but I have since regained control of my eating (lol) and I have been eating a little bit almost every single day since then!

It's so yummy! I love to eat it on apples or bananas especially! :9 :9 :9

My DH won't touch the natural so I have to buy him the regular brands...lol.

Have a great work out!

hi wendy!

i don't buy top-of-the-line natural pb! i buy either laura scudders or smuckers! (and i get it at super walmart! lol!) i think it's laura scudders that has a larger bottle of the smooth!

i saw in the post below that they replaced the fat with some chemical long name stuff x( x( i kinda wondered that cuz i know for low fat other stuff.. they use sugar or something to replace the fat to make it taste good!

when you finish the jars you have.. give the smuckers or laura scudders a try (uhm.. i get the kind WITH salt! not so sure i'd like it without... sadly... as healthy an eater that i am.. i haven't been able to give up salt yet! bad me!)

Thanks Desert!

Actually, to be honest I think what I have at home IS smuckers but since it is reduced fat they have added the cr*p to it to make it taste better. lol Mine also has salt in it...I don't know that I could bring myself to try NO SALT...that might be pushing it a little TOO far for me as well! :p LoL

Ever try a pb and banana sandwich? Whole grain bread, pb, sliced bananas (I also like to add sprouts). Yum! (I just discovered that in my 20's, when I worked at a whole foods coop).

I'm confused by the term "natural peanut butter". I mean, there's unnatural peanut butter? I see can the low-fat ones having unnatural ingredients, but why would regular PB be anything but natural?
