nasty stomach virus

hopefull

Cathlete
Just thought I would post this info. My 4 year old has had a terrible stomach virus for the past two days. I think she is getting better!!! She was vomitting every 20 minutes. I took her to the doctor thinking he would put her on some phengran and things would get better. He said he wouldn't put her on this drug, but as a last resort if dehydration was setting in. He sent me home with instructions for keeping her hydrated and called, yep called!, the next day to check on her. Oh, I'm tired, here is my point. He didn't want to give her the phenegran because it causes seizures in about 15% of children. I have 3 children, and this is the first I've ever heard of this. I have a low seizure threshold, simply means that if I hit my head very hard I will tend to have a seizure. Don't know if this would factor in for my daughter, but I was sure glad to have the information and to have a doctor that was conservative with administering this drug. I've been able to call my previous doctor and get a Rx for this drug over the phone. Just thought I would pass this information along. He told me that the seizures this drug causes very often need further medical treatment. I flatlined several years ago while having a seizure. You can imagine how this scared me. NO phenegran at this house ever again. We now know how to deal with this problem in a more healthful way.

Thank you for the information. I will do some research when I have time. I think that some doctors are too quick prescribing drugs you are lucky your doctor informed you about that possible side effect.
