Mystic Tans and Sand

I was wondering if anyone has had one of those Mystic tans or any other kind of spray tan and then gone to a sandy location? I heard that they don't do so well because the sand rubs them off. Of course I can understand if you rub sand all over yourself, it would probably come off. But what about the normal sand you get on you when at the beach?

I'm going to Mexico in February and I usually go to a tanning booth 7-10 times before we go, but after spending the first 30 years of my life in Southern California and probably half of those worshipping the sun, I feel like at 43 I should now watch it (or so says my doctor because of all my sun freckles).

Any advice from someone who has done this type of tan would be appreciated. I don't like the fake bottle tans or spray tans you can buy at the store. I also know if I get a spray tan I'll still have to wear suncreen. I'll be there for a week, so I'll probably tan just a bit so I'm not completely white at the end of my vacation as the tan wears off.

Thanks!

Susan
