My training update - 35 mile 2 days

L Sass

Cathlete
Rather proud of myself. You all know how I wanted to join you on the CCPP yesterday but hoofed it for 20 miles instead.

Now remember I did invite any and all of you to join me on my 15 today - no takers huh? Ok - I did. So yesterday was L&G Extreme and a 20 mile walk - today was no Cathe, but 15 miles (we actually went closer to 16). A few twinges of tightness in my arthritic knee, but other than that - I'm good. Tired - but good. So having done this 20/15 split - I actually think I'll be ok for 60.

Just had to shout my excitement. Thanks for letting me share.

Lorrie, I'm really impressed with your accomplishments so far. DH and used to backpack in the days before kids, and we considered 12 miles a really long day. And that was 25 years and about 20 pounds ago. Way to go and best wishes as you continue.

That's great! So the actual event will be three days, 20 miles per day? When will that be? And finally, do you follow something similar to a marathon plan...something tried and true?

Hi Elaine - yes the actual event is August 17-19 (the weekend after Cathe's RT) and it's about 24 miles day 1, 20 day 2, and 16 day 3 to allow for closing ceremonies. The 3-day organizers have a training schedule - similar to marathon training. This weekend called for an 18/15 split, but we went 20/15.

It was really cool because we passed an elderly couple out walking. They heard us coming and politely moved out of our way, saying they would let the "younger gals" run through. We emphasized "no - walking" and told them we were training for 60. They asked what it was all about and when we told them, the old lady asked if she could give us a hug, because she is a breast cancer survivor. Ya' know we were tired and sweaty, but that gesture seemed to pull it all together!

Lorrie!!! AWESOME training session! Good for you! I was just wondering about how yoru training was going!

That hug from the older lady? Remember that feeling? Multiply that by about 200 and then you'll have a small idea of what it will feel like to FINISH THIS EVENT!

WOOHOO!

Gayle

Thanks Gayle! That means a lot coming from somebody who has been through that sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. BTW - I've not been around here much lately but did want to let you know I saw your post about your relationship situation and wanted to send you big <<<hugs>>>. I'm sure it's been very hard for you, but like what many others said - I'm sure in your heart you know it was the right thing for your family. I'll reiterate again how much respect I have for your courage and stamina in all you've faced. Can't wait to hook up again at the RT! Take care.

Lorrie, I'm in awe of your accomplishment. Great job!! I know you can do this and I'll keep you in my prayers. By the way, my friend started chemo about a month or so ago and she's doing about as well as can be expected. She's so amazing and she has such a positive attitude. She's having a little trouble eating but she's doing her best.

Great job Lorrie! That hug shows what it's all about. Keep on walkin' GF! You are gonna do great! C U in a couple weeks!

RE: Michele!!

Lorrie -

Just curious if you've lost more weight with all this walking. Also, what is your game plan after you stop the long walks? Your bod got used to a lot of activity!
