My Toe!!!

Mar

Cathlete
I am so frustrated. Here's the background. Almost a month ago, I smashed my foot into a step ladder. The next day, pretty much my whole foot was black and blue and swollen. I iced it a few times, took ibuprofen and limped around. The black & blue started to fade and I thought it was healing pretty well. For the last three weeks I've been walking around with a stiff soled shoe with the velcro strap that I got from a medical supply place so the toe will not bend. I have only been able to ride my recumbent (which is gotten really old). I like it, but only once a week. I usually do step and kickboxing.

I had it x-rayed on Wednesday cause my fourth toe is still swollen and very painful. Doc said nothing is broken, but that arthritis has probably set in. He gave me anti-inflammatory meds and said to rub capzasin on it. I am so frustrated that it won't get better and I'll never be able to step or kickbox again.

Anyone else ever have this happen. Help please!!! Thanks.

I've been out because of a herniated disc and also when I have had operations and I know how frustrating it can be to not exercise.
Even so, you need to try to not let that voice of discouragement get you down. I am sure you will step and kickbox again, just not right now. I am going to try kickboxing for the first time in a month tomorrow myself. It seems to be hard on my back. So ....I will have to go real careful the first couple of times and see what happens.
That takes a lot of the "fun" factor out. But I need to respect my limitations right now.
Take care.

Just wanted to send you a {{{{{{HUG}}}}}} and wishes that you are able to resume your workouts in the future.:)

Mar, I had a stress fracture of my foot a few years ago that did not show up on xray. When my foot continued to hurt I got a bone scan and, bingo! there it was. I had to wear an immobilizing boot for about 8 weeks and was was fine after that. If your foot is still bothering you I'd call your doctor and ask about a bone scan.

Mar,

I'm very sorry to hear about you toe and I know it is frustrating. But did the doctor tell you that you would NEVER be able to step again or are you jumping to conclusions? Please seek second opinion...

Take care

Hi, I was in a very similar situation. What I did was to tape my fourth toe to the third. It was the only thing that helped and it took about a month. I was in pain and probably shouldn't have done this, but I continued to workout on it. I kept it taped all the time, no matter what. You might try it. Good luck!
