My team won, congratulate me??

Can someone explain this concept to me???? The other day at work, one of my co-workers comes up to me and says.."aren't you going to congratulate me, Jerry?"

I asked why..did you get a raise...new car..new addition to the family??? Nope, he wanted his props because the San Diego Chargers won their game Sunday night.

I asked him...how many catches did you have in the game...how many tackles...??? I told him if one of the people who actually made a difference in the outcome come strolling in...he'll get my congrats.

Yeah I never got how people can sit around like stupid animals barking and roaring over watching other people do things!
Go join a local sports team you big galute hehe :D (Ill bet they're probably overweight too.. from watching other people play sports ;)

As a college football sports nut-Clemson-I understand his happiness! Especially the Chargers, even though I am not into pro-football, just sports talk-both stations....ESPN and The Game on the radio.

Did he bet on the game?

(I really have no idea : I'm not a sports fan by any stretch of the imagination---unless you count kitty rasslin'!--and fandom just goes over my head).

Well I love it when my favorite hockey team wins since I go to quite a few games.

Would I want to be congratulated - no !

Am I happy for them - yes !

Having grown up playing sports and competing in high school and college I appreciate the work put into playing competitive sports and how nice it is when it pays off with a win.

But I am just as happy for those on this board who make it through an exercise class or DVD for the first time or who finish a race or better their personal best times. It is all about the effort put into something and then accomplishing even part of what you set out to do, if not surpass your goal.

I have known many a person to live vicariously through others - believing it is really them who did the hard work. Ever heard a professional sport player or coach being mocked because they didn't do things the right way during the game?

Jerry, ITA with your comment and only hope those who must count on others for congratulations on a win that they had no participation in, someday get an opportunity to really "win" something where they really did participate - then maybe they can realize what it actually feels like to have worked hard and reaped a reward from it.

People never cease to amaze me, how about you?

Yea, that's kind of dumb. If they aren't your team, why would YOU care? When my team wins it's just for me. I don't expect to be congratulated.

His remark was about him

getting attention from you - not so much about his *team*.

I do a happy dance when my teams win but I don't go around asking people to congratulate me. And for that matter I don't congratulate people when their teams wins - except if someone I know is on the other side and it is at the High School and below level.
