My son broke his arm

I got a call from my son's daycare on Wed around 10:15 that he fell on the playground and that they weren't sure what he did to his arm. So I got off the phone with them, called his dr and made an appt and went and picked him up at daycare. We were at the dr by 10:35. He was hysterical - I felt so bad for him. He went for x-rays and turns out he broke his forearm in 2 different spots. So off to the big hospital we went - we were sent to orthopedics. He has a splint from his finger to about 3 inches above his elbow. His arm is wrapped in cotton, then plaster, then an ace bandage but it is hard like a cast. He goes in on Sept 16 to have that taken off and then he'll get a real cast on the forearm.

To make matters worse, he just started soccer 2 weeks ago so now that is on hold. I doubt he'll be all better before soccer ends.

This is so NOT what I needed. LOL. Picture a very, very active 4 year old boy with a cast on his arm.

Oh and if you're wondering how he broke it here ya go: rather then sliding down the firepole on the playground equipment, my superman thought he could just jump - which was 6 feet up and he landed on his arm. I knew it was only a matter of time with him. I doubt this will stop him from doing it again though. ((SIGH)).

Oh, Dana! Your poor boy! Hope this is not a sign of more hospital visits to come! I remember I broke my arm when I was about 8 and had a cast above my elbow. A couple weeks later, I got chicken pox! ACKK!! That was rough!

How long will he need to have the cast? I hope it will heal very quickly and your son is back in action soon (just not jumping off any more playground equipment!).

That's just awful. One of the children in my nursery school broke his arm on Tuesday.(he was at home when he broke it, thank god!) He's only two, he has to stay completely off of it for 10 days. Can you imagine keeping a two year old in bed for 10 days?! Your childcare providers must feel really, really bad!

He's supposed to have the splint removed on Sept 16 and then the cast for about 3 more weeks.

Oh believe me he is back in action already. Last night he got shocked by the electric fence behind our house (we live in farm country) - come to find out that he got shocked b/c he put his hotwheel car on the fence. He keeps me on my toes!

Oh Dana. I feel for you. You have got your hands full with that little guy. Hope he heals up soon! And I hope this is not an indication of hospital visits for you! They knew my DH by name when he was younger!
Hang in there!
