My "mini review" of Tracie Long's Staying Power

I did the complete workout this morning of Staying Power and really enjoyed it. Everything flowed nicely--the cardio segments, weights. The brief floor hip section had me screaming in mercy (ouch).

Staying Power uses the med ball in addition to non med ball cardio. Lots of tricep work in this one. (I'm glad as that is a trouble spot for most of us ;)) Tracie does a nice sequence consisting of kickbacks with a moving warrior that works the legs and then into some overhead triceps extensions. You'll also see sets of tricep pushups near the end of the workout. You will also see bicep curls, overhead presses, rows for the back, etc during weight work or intermixed with the cardio portions. I also love the way she incorporates the inner and outer thighs in most of the moves. I'm sure to feel it tomorrow! Tracie may add an inner thigh sweep or a side leg lift to the cardio, for example, to effectively tone those areas. I used light weights, as Tracie suggested, during the entire workout and still felt it!

As stated above the lower body gets a good dose of "ouch" with a brief mat sequence that will tone the glutes and outer hips. You'll also do some bridge work that really keys in on those hard to tone glutes! Tracie does a quick set of flies to work the chest to round out the body parts. You will also perform regular pushups along with those tricep pushups. Ab work is quick but tough. (bicycles and various "Tracie inspired" routines!)

The stretch was great. I didn't skip it, as I sometimes do, and was glad I didn't. You'll stretch the lower body effectively with pigeon, wide angle stretch, butterfly stretch, head to knee stretch, quad stretch and a few others including a nice twist pose.

Two thumbs up!

Has anyone had issues with quality?

Has anyone had issues with the quality of the new Tracie Long DVD's ? I was really excited to get the two I ordered, Defining Shape and Staying Power. But, when I put in Defining Shape, the quality was *so* bad that I didn't even complete the workout. I'm hesitant to open the other one because if it is as bad as the first I want to return. I've heard other people complain about the quality of those original FitPrime tapes/DVD's, but this one was ten times worse than that. Just curious. I love Tracie but if I'm paying full price for a DVD I want to be able to use it. Perhaps some were defective...

I can't remember which DVD it is - I think it's the step one - but there is a section where the voice instructions don't remotely match with the section of the workout that Tracie is doing! I thought I was going crazy at first ("I was sure she just said march but she's doing knee-ups??!!") but after a minute or so I clued in that it was just bad editing. I got an e-mail a few days ago that they are sending out a replacement DVD and I'm hoping it's for this one.

I have all four and haven't noticed any quality problems except for the Step workout mess up (but they sent replacements for all of those) and on one (maybe more) of the workouts, the sound level is off between the intro section and the actual workout. I think the intro was really loud and I had to turn down the TV, then turn it back up for the workout. I may have that backwards.

Defining shape was my favorite of the 4. I thought the cuing was really good and I enjoyed the exercises. I liked Staying Power a lot too.

Back up I liked except for the med ball/sport drill segment. I just don't like sport drills.

Step forward I thought was intense enough, but I found the moves boring. I prefer more choreographed step.

The only quality problem I have with these (besides the glitch in "Step Ahead," which has been corrected) is the music volume.

On some sections of some of the workouts, the music volume is WAY too low (on the other hand, the volume of the menu screen is WAY too loud!).

Very disappointing, because I love the music choices (just wish I could hear it in all the workouts!)

Thanks, I actually did Staying Power tonight and it was fine. So I'm thinking maybe it was a fluke. Not to mention Allison over at Tracie Long immediately responded to my email and they are sending me a replacement!
