My magnets WORKED!

I'd posted the other day about the possibility of using magnets and saving oodles of $ in prepping for STS. I was all ready to splurge on platemates in 1 1/4 and 2 1/2 # increments. but they are SO expensive.

I already have 1 1/4 and 2 1/2 plate weights for my barbell. Went to Home Depot and spent $7 on 6 magnets. 3 little magnets (that weigh a mere ounces) hold those 1 1/4 or 2 1/2# circles onto the ends of my dumbells beautifully! So I was all ready to plop down around $60, and got away with $7. Just thought I'd share!

Hi Lorrie,

I'm not as smart as you. I ordered the Pace Weights for a lot more money. I will say that the Pace Weights is a good product and service was excellent.

They included a paper with instructions which talked about a few things you might not be aware of. See below:

Caution
Pace Weights contain strong magnets. Magnets can erase magnetic devices and cause metal parts to become magnetized. Keep away from VCR tapes, audio tapes, computer disks, and other devices that might be sensitive to magnetic leads, such as home computers, watches, calculators and electronic equipment.

Handle With Care
Always set Pace Weights down gently. Magnets can be weakened, damaged, or dislodged by sharp impact. Never drop or slam against hard surfaces. Keep magnets dry.

Hope this information was helpful,
Dianne

Lorrie - a little clarification for me please?

Where did you find the magnets, ie what section of the store. And what are the 1 1/4# and 2 1/2# "circles" you are speaking of?

TIA ! ;)

Linda -- my 1 1/4 # weights came with my barbell set. I haven't checked at a place like Dick's, but I would have to think they have them, and have to think they would be less expensive than platemates.

Jacque -- by "circles" I mean my plate weights -- the weights that go on my barbell. Not really sure what section I got the magnets at in Home Depot -- asked a worker to point me to magnets and went to that isle. I want to think it was in the section by screws and nails maybe (i.e. methods to attach things.) HTH

Oh Jennie I don't, and I threw out the packaging when I saw they would work. Truly they are just small gray, block magnets, about 1 1/2" long, 3/4" wide, and about 1/3" thick. They came 2 in a pack. Go to your local hardware or home improvement store and ask them where you would find household magnets.

I will definitely do that. Thanks Lorrie.
