My July rotation has running... I need help!!!

Well I'm 90% sure that my July rotation is going to be Cathe's August '04 rotation. Some days you're supposed to run after weight training. A couple of problems...the last time I ran was in college (not that long ago but a couple of years back), I don't own a treadmill nor do I have a gym membership anymore (so I'll have to exercise outdoors), and I have a pair of cross training shoes. For all of you runners, help me out on this one...

1. Should I get running shoes? This is going to be a couple of short runs a couple of days a week.

2. What kind of outfits do you wear? Do you use running pants and tank tops or just your regular workout clothes? (i.e. the ones you use when you work out to Cathe). I need something that breathes. It's hot in here and sometimes with 100% humidity. I don't know if my cotton clothes will cut it (I normally work out with A/C so I don't have to worry about breathability).

3. Do you think I'll do okay? Or should I substitute running for run/walk intervals? I don't know how my body might respond to running on pavement after all these years.

Thank you in advance.

I'm not a veteran runner, but here is my $.02
1. clothes- wear what is comfortable, breathable and supports your breasts.
2. Shoes- try your first run in your cross trainers. If you think you will continue with periodical running, invest in running shoes. They won't go to waste. And you can always wear them for major house work!! LOL I prefer running shoes, because I don't want injuries, Been-there-done-that.
3. You may want your first runs to be run/walk intervals. But if you feel good running and can go longer do so. "Listen to your body" If you need to walk, go ahead, and run as soon as you get energy. And stretch well afterwards. You may do better than you think if you have been doing Cathe workouts regularly. HTH and good luck!

Good running shoes? Any suggestions? a web site? a good price? I am looking for a pair, too. I have some trail running shoes, New Balance, but I would like another pair.

Good luck, Rose!! I am just starting with running, too. I am LOVING it! It is a fast way to get my cardio in and I am already seeing results! (after 2 weeks, about 1.5---4.5 miles run/walk)

Rose - I'd just like to second everything Judy said.

I've always found Asics to be the best running shoes for me. I underpronate, which means I tend to put my weight on the outsides of my feet, and some shoes, notably Nikes, just don't have enough outside support for me.
