My husband laughs at me

My husband said he would never complain about me exercising but he laughs at me when I say I'm going to get stronger. I have a short bar I can make heavier like 20, 30 ,etc. but the heaviest set I have is 12#. Saturday we went to the big city and I bought a pair of #15's on sale and he just laughs at me and says sure you will.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I could say back to him? I told him he should encourage me and not laugh at me. Woe is me :-( .

Seriously, Darlene, you won't believe how quickly you can build up to a heavier weight. He will be proud of you...but more importantly...you'll be proud of yourself.

My husband only laughs when I do cardio (though I admit I probably do look kind of funny).

Darlene, I agree with the others--show him don't tell him. Let him laugh but you'll have the last laugh, right?

BTW, does he exercise at all? If he's one of those husbands who doesn't work out himself, then he should probably pipe down until he gets busy himself--not sure of the best way to say that, though.

Hit him over the head with it to demonstrate your ability to lift it! JUST KIDDING :)

I agree...just do it and teach him a lesson.

ETA: I hadn't read the other posts when I wrote this. At least a few of us think the same way ;)

If I hit him over the head he'd probably hit me back :D . I just told him that most of you said to hit him over the head with the dumbell and he just laughed. He thinks I'm not strong because I'm not as strong as he is but he weighs a good 80# more than me so I don't choose to be that strong if I have to weight that much:D .

Actually I'm pretty strong but he doesn't see it. Last month he was pushing hay bales down the stack to me and I just picked them up and loaded them on the trailer. When he came down I started to pick up a bale and he said "don't lift that" and I said "too late I'd already loaded the trailer".

Thanks for all the good suggestions!

Darlene

Tell him to try not to be so jealous! That's what I tell my husband sometimes when he looks at me like I can't or shouldn't be lifting "heavy". Give me a break.

Exactly my thoughts... That oughta teach him!
