My how times change

I was reminded of the thread a while back re: starting solids while searching through some records. I mistakenly tought I was started on solids at a month... WRONG! My "health record" dated 11-11-70 has "rice cereal" under special instructions. I was born 10-28, so I was two weeks old. I've decided it is a wonder I can function between the in utero DES exposure, the early digestion of solids, and all those immunizations I received. :) Just kidding (DES is pretty serious and who knows about the rest). Anyway, I thought I was at least one month old before starting solids but was much younger. ;)

That is so young! You want to know what is so funny, my grandma is absolutely amazed that my boys got so big on only breast milk for their first four months of life. She was raised, and she was taught with her kids, believing that breast milk was bad and kyro syrup with some other stuff added to it was best for babies. Isn't it amazing how far we have come?!? I am happy that we are much more educated now then we used to be... or are we?

Missy and Autumn--what are you girls doing over here? Autumn--you were born in 1970? Wow--I was 15 years old.

These forums are a funny thing. We chit chat with each other over this vast cyberspace without benefit of ever having met each other or talked face to face. Honestly, when we're all talking fitness or some other mundane factoid, I am oblivious to the fact that I was married before some of you were born. I don't know what the he!! I'm trying to say--just that it's weird man--weird!!

Oh--I was a bottle fed baby. Maybe that's my problem--LOL!! I have no idea when my mom started me on solids. My mom didn't keep ANY records on me or my siblings. I have no idea what vaccinations I had--nothing! Can you imagine?

My mom was feeding me and my sister cereal with in the first month also and whole milk with in the first 2 months!!! We are fine! Never suffered any ills from getting these things earlier then they allow them now. I just don't get it....I can't feed DS milk until one year old!!! WTF!? I find that quite bizarre especially considering he's been on milk-based formula his whole life! x(

I have a print out from the pediatrician that states that I can start DS on meats at 6 months old yet I just went for his 6 month check-up and they suggest waiting another 2-3 months!?! Makes no sense...don't give me a print out that says one thing and then tell me something different!x( x( x(

If anyone you could possibly shed some light on WHY things have changed...are our kids REALLY better off waiting so long for some foods?? Maybe if the reasons behind it are explained to me it won't frustrate me so much!;)

Missy, my mom was a milk and karo syrup baby too. LOL! You know, things didn't work out so well for her. :( My mom did breastfeed me. She did tell me the doctor instructed her to drink a beer a day so I would gain weight. SO, add that to the list of things done wrong... sounds like a country song. :)

Michelle, I can't imagine having no record of my immunizations. Times really do change.

Wendy, I think the infant digestive system is not considered mature enough to properly dige+
s;t-f56p[ (hmmmm... Jordan just threw his sippy cup at the key board).
Anyway, they can't digest solids.

I gotta run.... from Jordan.

Autumn, I too was born in 1970, but the beginning of the year. My mom has no record though but when I had first had Alexis my mother in law truly trying to be helpful gave me her list of when to give solids. It was similar to your list, it was dated 1965, the year my hubby was born.
