My home is about to become a shelter (Katrina)

I'm going to update here just because it is kind of therapeutic for me! I finally got to talk to them for a bit this morning. They will be coming here. The "house" they were loaned is actually a cabin, come to find out. It took them 3 days with a chainsaw and friends just to get out of their very long country driveway and they had to cut and move over 100 trees. They got out with a few t-shirts and shorts- enough to go around with one or two changes of clothes. That's it. So sad! Anyway, we were already planning to remodel our house and change our second garage into a game room or extra bedroom. They will stay in the cabin, either until it isn't working or until we get our room done, whichever comes first. The room should be done in about 3 weeks. The men have stayed behind to work and rebuild. The dad/grandpa (not the police officer) is a veterinarian and he is treating people and animals with whatever he has. So this will be a group of one 60 yr old lady, one 88 yr old lady, one 38 yr old mom and 6 kids. At this point, I feel like it is the VERY least we can do and I'm so glad to help. There were 2 anonymous cards sent to me from someone in this forum. I already forwarded it to them and they are going to stop at an internet cafe and redeem it for shoes and health supplies for the great-grandmother. THANK YOU to whoever you are!!!!

Thank you for keeping us posted, Amy. It helps me know how to pray for them.

Maggie:)

Thank you for keeping us posted. Your family is going through so much. We will be praying for them. I emailed you again. Take care!

No advice...but thank God for kind and loving folks like you. Yes, I think requesting they take advantage of the homeschool study center is a great idea. You'll have some peace and quiet in your own home and they might find it a nice break from all they're going through and a big help with the children's education.

Amy,

Thank you for the update and do please keep us posted. Your family remains in my prayers.

Update; I just got this note from my cousin today. You guys have so amazed me!

Hey, Amy. I was out walking with the kids when you called. Got the ring of the phone and heard it was you before I lost the signal :). Tried to text you but couldn't even get enough signal for that. ANYHOO . . . we got your package today and we're overwhelmed. Had no idea you all would be sending that much. It's most welcome and appreciated - living "on the road" gets expensive and we left with very little (as in, the only shoes we brought were flip-flops). There are others much worse off than we are, so if you don't mind we may share as we come across them. Thank you all so much for your love and your generosity. We love you!

Amy!!!

I was thinking about you today. I'm so glad for the update. It does my heart good to know that your cousin and her family are well and I'm so moved by her generosity towards others. This has been a much needed bit of news. Thanks again and please continue to post updates. Your family remains in my prayers.

Michele

For her to have nothing and yet to be thinking of others with even less is truly humbling.

Yes, keep us posted. She is in my prayers as well.

Maggie:)
