My first spin class!

Well, since my office is closed this week, I have the week off. That means I have extra time and energy. My co-worker gave me a month free pass to her local gym, which is local to me too, and very close to work. Today I went to a spin class there for the first time! I have ridden a bike before, but always carefully avoiding hills- not so today!!

Whoa! Spinning is a whole new thing! The music, the lights and the instructor were all great. It took me about 20 minutes to get acclimated physically, to figure out where to put my weight on the bike to stand, and to tune my ear to what the instructor was saying because the sound system is so different from my home videos. It was a lot of fun standing up on the bike and pedaling exactly in time to awesome music!

My legs feel like they're gonna be sore tomorrow and/or the next day. I am contemplating joining this gym on their alternate day plan- just Tuesdays, Thurs and Sat- because I love my videos but I can branch out to group exercise and the A/C is great! It's $18.00/month for this. I need to try it more beforehand so I'll use this free month. I am so glad I had this week off and gathered the energy to do this first-time thing!

They have other classes like "Step Challenge" and "Powerflex" that sound familiar, all at convenient times.

By the way, the instructor told me I was in good shape, asked me where I worked out before, twice! Both times I answered "At home with videos." If she asks me more I'll tell her more. Thanks Cathe!

Hi Connie,

Misery loves company, so when I saw your post, "my 1st spin class" I couldn't help but think, "hmmm? wonder if her legs will be as sore as mine are right now when she gets up?" I started walking/jogging yesterday and this morning my legs are on fire! I've been working out consistently for the last 15 months without fail, but who knew switching up your "normal" routine could cause such muscle soreness?
I hope your legs are in better shape than mine! Sounds like you had fun, and maybe spinning might be my next adventure! (but no time soon! :))

Donna,
Last night I was expecting soreness, but right now it doesn't seem too bad. Maybe it hasn't kicked in yet though! When I get DOMS it is sometimes delayed 2 whole days.

I already ride my bike outside at least an hour a week (total) so maybe my legs will not get too sore? I know they got heckasore last time I took a walk!

Yeah!

I too loved my first (and only) spin class...so much that I bought a spin bike! I live 100 miles from a gym though. You may not get sore. Surprisingly, I didn't. But jogging gets me sore if I haven't done it in a while EVERYTIME!

Congrats! Go enjoy some more! After the spin class I took there was a step class, so I took it too. For some reason I enjoyed being at home with Cathe much more. I thought the crowd would make it fun...like spin class was!

RE: Yeah!

Oh Andrea, I plan to take a step class there too! If that's the same case with me, then I'll happily stay home with Cathe! But since Cathe teaches live classes too, I thought I'd try some of those (the closest thing to it, being in California!)

I plan on staying with Cathe at home too. Strength training I will continue at home. Except maybe the gravitron- the assisted pull-up machine.

The membership I may choose is just a month-to-month thing so if I find myself not using it I can just cancel it.

Gravitron

Oh I wish I had one of those at home! My doorway chin up bar is soooo hard. I feel like I'll never master a chin up! Definitely play around with that puppy!

$18/month is great! You could take the classes and do some weight stuff you just can't do at home...leg extension and gravitron to name a few.

Have fun!

RE: Yeah!

Not to butt in but............
what kind of spin bike did you get? I am in the market
for one and have no idea!!!

Thanks,
Lisa

I got the V-bike. I bought it directly from StarTrac and am very happy with it. The reason I chose this one, is the club I went to had the V-bike. By bum DID NOT get saddle sore! And still doesn't! Now, I can't say that for everyone. I know people that have ridden them that DID get saddle sore. I don't know how much difference there are in spin bikes. They are VERY simple. Just one knob to adjust tension and that's it! They sure look hi-tech though. My brother calls mine the "gyrocycle". If you'd like the name of the salesman I bought it from, let me know. He gave me his cell # and everything and I ended up bugging him at an Ironman Convention in UT cause my bike STILL wasn't here :)
