My DH is a noshaholic

He always seems to be noshing on something, and it's usually something highly processed. The doc wants him to lose weight, and I'm worried. I remember when I was a kid and wanted a cookie my Mom would say "have an apple instead". I wish I could say that to him, but I can't be his Mommy. What do you do?

Oh Nancy, my DH is terrible. He eats cookies for dinner and things like that all the time. He has high blood pressure and took himself off of his medicince :confused: He just won't listen!

Mine too!!!!

He lost 25 pounds last year and has put it all back on. His weakness is ice cream at night and dinners out for work!!!!

I am giving him a gentle push back to exercise and keeping junk out of the house.Well, the last part is for me too!!!!

Sometimes they're gonna do what they're gonna do :( Have you tried the "honey I love you and I'd like you to be around a long time" talk? Or, if that isn't working, can you buy/make better for him junk food? Whole wheat cookies and brownies? Banana bread w/ applesauce and wheat flour? Homemade crackers? Homemade ice cream - use yogurt instead. At least then the junk is "real" and not full of funky ingredients.

I'm going thru something similar w/ my dad who has a whole slew of health problems and family history as well and won't get his head out of his a$$. So I don't have all the answers, but I wish you the best of luck! {{{HUGS}}}

Hi Nancy,

Have you seen the book, "The Body Fat Solution" by Tom Venuto? (He also wrote the ebook "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle".) BFS comes in hard cover and is available on Amazon and I even saw it at our local Borders. I think it is easily the BEST book I have ever read about emotional eating and how to reconcile all the conflicting diet advice out there (low fat, low carb, high protein, etc. etc). This guy is absolutely brilliant!

BFS is comprehensive. It addresses exercise, making better food choices, meal planning. There's no quackery or quick fixes or supplement suggestions. I know you said your DH's doctor "forgot" to discuss his weight w/ him twice (unforgivable, IMO), but maybe you could give the Dr. this book and have her give it to him.

Just a thought and good luck! :)
