So my internet just stopped working?!?!?? All of a sudden Bang!!! No web pages would load. Started Mon night. Internet was connected, my weather was updated, my news bar was scrolling, but no web pages. Just said "waiting for...." Firefox and Explorer. Restarted the computer, reset the DSL, nada. Finally called Earthlink last night. Spent half hour on the phone w/ tech support - still didn't work. Said a Sr. tech support would call back w/in 24 hours - hasn't happened yet. Came home tonight, still didn't work. Just on a whim, switched over to my husbands side of the computer, and it worked?!?!?!?! HUH???? Switched backed to my side and happily surfing ever since. What the heck was that all about? And a big thumbs down to tech support for not fixing me and not calling me back. Glad I got the bills paid before my internet decided to go on vacation.

This is coming from a computer pro, do not try this at home LOL

When you say you switched to your husbands "side" does that mean you logged out of your account and then logged into his account, or just switched users? Had you tried a hard reboot or just the soft restart? Windows is notorious for locking up.

You shouldn't be dissing Earthlink for anything but not calling you back. It was obviously your equipment that had the issue not their equipment or connection.

Anytime I feel that something is "spooky" with Windows the computer gets a hard reboot, actually shut the power off. I have to use Windows for work, in my other life I use Ubuntu Linux.

Did a total restart/power off 3 or 4 times w/ Earthlink on the phone, didn't help. Just switched users and it decided to work. I put part of the blame on Earthlink though, because we were running Earthlink on our prev computer and it happened as well. Ended up having to get a new computer - which was not a bad thing - it was old and it was time for a new one - so didn't pursue that fix very hard. I do agree, Windows can be a bit "wonky" at times.

Glad you got it working again! It sucks being offline, doesn't it? It's like being cut off from the world if you're used to using it all the time.

I recently had my computer completely crash on me (have a new one now) so not only was I offline, I couldn't do anything on my computer--couldn't even get little reminders that it was time to put out the trash or anything (I rely on my computer for all sorts of dumb little things). I was dying. It did give me more time for my Cathe workouts, though, and I love the new Mac I got to replace the old pc. :)
