My cat has a sore/bubble in her mouth. Any thoughts?

The past couple of months or so, I'd notice my cat would chomp on the left side of her mouth almost as if something was caught in her teeth. It would happen occasionally and I didn't think much of it. A few days ago I was near her when she yawned (ooh, can anyone say cat Listerine!) and I saw a bubble or sore on the inside rim of her mouth. I started giving her a probiotic right away. I've tried to open her mouth to look at it but she's not the warm, fuzzy type of cat that let's you do that kind of stuff to her. She was a stray that I took in back in May. She's maybe close to 1 1/2 years old. I don't have a vet and I am financially challenged at the moment so am trying to see if there are some home remedies that might address this. She doesn't seem to be in pain but just having more of an annoyance with this thing in her mouth. Has anyone experienced something similar with their cat or have any suggestions? Thanks very much!

Hi Bam,

It would probably be best if you could get her to a vet to get checked out. You might check with your local humane society or SPCA to see if they offer health check services or can suggest low-cost professionals that may be able to help out. It would also be good to find out if what she has is infectious or contagious - to humans or other animals. In my city, there are cost-effective resources for those who do not want or cannot afford traditional vets. You might also call a vet and ask them for other affordable references; my vet actually helped me find low-cost alternatives as vet bills were becoming more than I could afford.

Good luck!

Take her to the vet! I had a cat with a similar situation, and turned out she had cancer in her jaw. I hope it's nothing that bad, maybe just a bad tooth.

Thanks ladies! I will check to see if there are low cost vets out there. FitGirl, thanks for those suggestions.

On another note, I JUST discovered that she has clawed the stuffing out of one of our chairs. I've been having problems with her clawing furniture and have followed suggestions that I have received here but she apparently won't stop. I bought her a most wonderful scratching post with different textures and she never touched it. She's not on my nice list right now and I am so not happy!
