My 2 cents on TLP's 'Core Foundations'

Hi All!

I received the 'Core Foundations' DVD yesterday and gave it a whirl last night. Here are my thoughts:

The moves are new and interesting, true, and JAC is a decent instructor in most respects (i.e. not to much 'woo-hoo', straight-forward delivery, etc...), but there were times when difficult moves (such as those tick-tocks with a stability ball between your legs in a push-up position) needed more detailed instruction. Frankly, I fell on my face doing these and was nervous that I pulled a muscle in my leg. I'm not feeling it yet, thank goodness (crossing my fingers) : )

I didn't mind that the set was pretty basic and everyone wasn't dressed in the same clothing. I just want a tough workout! There were points, however, when I couldn't tell exactly what was being done and the cues weren't there, so...

It wasn't all bad, of course. I think that I will add this dvd to my rotation for a few weeks and see what happens. All of the stability ball usage is a nice change and the plank work is tough. It will be a nice challenge! I do have Cathe to thank, however, for giving me the strength to do 90% of 'Core Foundations' on the first try.

When the DVD was over I put in Cathe's Ab Hits and did a 10-minute ab section. I'm just too spoiled. :7 There just aren't any comparisons to Cathe's workouts.

Take care, everyone, and keep up the great work!

Chicago Jen,

Thanks for the post. I've been thinking about this. Maybe I'll wait a while and think some more! If you ordered any of Tracy's other productions, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on them after you've done them.

Thanks, again!

No problem, Lisa! :)

I also have pre-orded TLP's Core Cardio DVD's, so I'll post my thoughts on those when I receive them! I really enjoy Tracy's instruction, so I'm thinking that the verbal cues will be much better with her leading the workout. We'll see! :p

Have a great weekend!

Jen

I think Tracie is going to send everyone a DVD that contains instructions for the workouts? Or it may be to those who preordered? But a person can get the instructional DVD (kinda like the Firm's 20 questions I suppose??) So there is an instructional DVD out there somewhere. LOL There was a flaw with the DVD's being fuzzy and lip-sync problems so Tracie is going to replace those.

I'm loving this extra and new way of core work. My DH was watching some of my demonstrations and he said that I was working areas that I was previously missing and or not working hard enough. That is just my spin anyway.;-)

I am SO glad I read your review of CF - I have done the workout 3 times now, and while I am getting a TINY bit better, there is a little voice in my head saying "shouldn't there be more instruction, more cues, more reminders about form?"

I, too, think it challenges us in new ways, but I really wish there were more guidance on form - and that you could actually SEE some of the modified versions of the exercises. If there is an instructional dvd coming out, that is GREAT thinking on Tracie's part!!!

I am just so happy to know I am not the only one who was hoping for more instruction and cue-ing. Cathe HAS, indeed, spoiled us!!!!!!! The more I try videos with other instructors, the more I realize that NOTHING can compare to her!!!! :)

Hi Spottyd,

I think that an instructional from Tracie would be great, too! And, yes, by the time I was 1/2 way done with the video I noticed that there was a modifier on the left, but that wasn't mentioned! At least I don't recall it being mentioned.

On a positive note, I've been walking around this afternoon and feeling a "good sore" in the oblique area, but I'm thinking that's from when I fell off of the ball 10 times! :7 I'm kidding! Well, not about the falling, but... it *is* a tough workout!

Take care!
Jen

I really loved this one!! I have all three of them now, and this is my favorite!! I found some of the moves VERY challenging on the stability ball, and I slipped off a couple of times too, but when we switched sides I was fine. I really felt my core and lower back being worked out! When I get a DVD player for the room in which I workout, I'm going to order Cathe's new DVD's (even the beginner ones), and Tracie's two new DVD's that are being released soon. NO ONE compares to Cathe for strength training, and I have the muscle definition from using her workouts to prove it - LOL - but I really love Tracie's new workouts for light cardio and functional training, and I'm finding my core tightening up in a way it wasn't with Boot Camp and Imax2. I know it's almost sacreligous to say such a thing, but it just shows that different things work for different people. For all-out, kick-a** cardio, nothing compares (for me anyway) to my two favs - Boot Camp and Imax2, but there are days I simply want to work on my core and take it easy, you know?

Now ... anyone know a really good, well-built combo DVD/VCR? I can't afford to replace my VHS workouts with DVD's, and the TV in the room where I workout is old and I can't hook up both a VCR and a DVD to it - not enough input/output jacks. Thanks in advance!!

Hi, Carol:
I love my Sony SLV-D300P. I think I paid around $180 for it six months ago. It plays all the Body Blast DVD's fine (premixes, blender, et al). However, the remote is not logically designed and takes some getting used to.

Thanks Ann!! I'm going to write down all makes and models people suggest so I don't forget them when I'm ready to go shopping. I appreciate your feedback!!
