Music Used On New Step Workouts

Hello, Cathe -

I have been using your step workouts on a rotational basis for a long time now and I absolutely love them. However, I would like to make an observation about the music used on the "Step Blast" workout and provide a suggestion for future step workouts.

I have found the music on "Step Blast" to be VERY distracting because it has popular songs rather than original music. In your earlier step workouts, the original music is oriented to providing motivation and I find that it becomes a substantial contributor to my workout effort. I find it difficult to ignore "move it, move it, move it"!! So, for me, the music contributes to the total workout experience. However, on "Step Blast," I am finding I have to BLOCK OUT the words of the songs in order to focus on what you are saying. Several times, I feel a direct competition between hearing your instructions and blocking the singer.

One of the things that I have always truly appreciated about your previous videos is the way the music works WITH me. In your step routines, I find the rhythms to be critical, so I really do focus on the music as a critical element of the work out. Also, following your cues takes a great deal of concentration, which is the primary reason I LOVE your videos. I do not get bored, even with a familiar routine.

However, the contemporary popular music on "Step Blast" is distracting my concentration. As a result, I'm finding I really like the choreography of "Step Blast," but I'm not enjoying the workout as much because of the distraction of the music.

I hope you actually read this because I look forward to more step videos and I hope you will decide to return to your own special motivational music. I want to keep getting the best workout possible and the music affects that process!

My suggestion for future step workouts: PLEASE return to original, motivational music that doesn't compete with you.

Thanks for providing such high quality step workouts! You're doing a great job! Kathy Holt

I've found that I also prefer non-vocal music (or music with a few words, like "pump it up" or something). I think the popular music is either something one likes or doesn't like, and it may get more of a reaction than the original instrumental music.

I think that Cardio Kicks and KPC have some of the most motivational music of Cathe's routines, and most of it is non-vocal.

Kathy, I am so glad you posted this because I feel the same way - and not just referring to Step Blast, but the entire BB series. I wanted to post to Cathe myself but I was afraid I'd get flamed to kingdom come!

I also agree. I block out the music because the words compete with Cathe's cues. It is especially hard when I know all the words to the song because my head starts singing along instead of paying attention to where my feet should be next.
