muscle endurance vs strength

Need some help. I use to work out with a persaonal training at a gym but I loved the group classes and she told me to do those only once a week because they were more endurance focused and to build strength I needed to do the floor and use the equipment.

so my questions is:

I want to loose about 10lbs so I know I need cardio and for this I was going to use the treadmill and your KPC DVD which I love:eek:)

I also want to loose some inche but become more toned and look nice in bathing suit and tank top for next summer. So waht would you recommend? Muscle Max, Pyramids or no of these. Was the trainer right I need the equipment like the leg press and so on from the gym?

Also any other videos out there that you recommend?

I loooove cardio coach so far....thanks for all the suggestions on this:eek:)))))))

Think I need to rephrase my question

when i look to purchase dvd's are certain ones meant for "endurance" and certain ones meant for "strength"

In my cart right now I have the pyramids and muscle max I'm not sure if I should be adding something more? I have heard pilates is great and thought about ordering squeeze or pure barre.

I just want to make sure I'm getting DVD's that are well rounded and not just for one particular thing...Does that make sense?

Yes, that does make sense. I can't reccomend any pilates, because I don't do it.

But pyramids is definitely for strength building, and muscle max even though it is full body, is still a strength workout.

MM is a big fav. around here as is Pyramids.

Cathe has a dvd called Muscle Endurance, which provides a faster lighter weight full body circuit to help balance something like pyramids. ME also comes with a great cardio/endurance workout called Bootcamp.

I like what you have in your cart, maybe tack on Bootcamp/ME for a more well rounded selection.

Hope this helps.

That does:eek:) Thanks. I have Jari Love get ripped to thte core..is this more endurance...this trainer has me all confsed.

I also have at home:
basic step and body fusion (which is still sealed) lol

Idid a body pump class the other day trying to decide if i was going to join the class from now until nov or make the commitment and just buy cathe stuff. The class was great although at 10lbs I was so sore...I know pathetic......anyway I keep thinking I know I can do this at home and get the same great workout if not better......

Hey there, ok you are totally not pathetic, don't even say that. Pathetic to me is sitting on your butt all day constantly talking about taking action, but never actually doing anything. You are doing great!

Also, you might be stressing a little too much about having everything just perfect. Just keep working out, you'll learn as you go, it's ALL good stuff what you are doing. You really don't have to buy everything at once.

I don't have Jari, people around here do, and like her, I can't comment on her workouts.

Are you saying you have those 3 dvds, or are you asking if you should get them?

Anyway, if you don't have KPC, I totally recommend that for a great cardio workout. If you like step, go for it on the step one too, I don't like step by anyone, but she is the gold standard for step videos.

CoreMax, I don't have this, and don't think I will.

Gym Styles is awesome, but to start get GS or Pyramids, then in a month or so re-evaluate. I only say this because your bill might get a bit large. But if money is not an issue, go for it, get both!

You probably won't need Butts and Guts right away with everything else.

So let me try to sum this up, for your first round of purchases, the videos will always be here, you can add to your collection as you try the dvds and figure out what you like.
For now:
Pyramids (2 day split) OR Gym Styles (3 day split).
Bootcamp/ME is a good dvd, gives you cardio and a muscle endurance workout. Bootcamp and ME has abs in it.
KPC/LG is great, KPC is great cardio and you get an extra leg workout. KPC has abs in it.
If you like step, pick up a step dvd for an extra sweatfest cardio style workout.

After you decide on your purchases, maybe some people can help you out with a structured rotation, but I pick a certain style of weights, like either heavy or endurance for 4-5 weeks, do those 3x per week, and then alternate days with cardio, for me cardio is mainly kickbox and some bootcamp. I tend not to go with an exact set rotation. On cardio days, I like to do whatever I'm feeling that day.

Good luck and happy spending! BTW, check out http://www.advancedworkouts.com/cathe-friedrich.html, she has the dvds slightly discounted, and free shipping over $20. The last I looked, KPC was on a good sale.

lol

Yes I do stress to have workouts perfect I need to follow a plan...strange I know but someone has to say ok do this then this and so on...lol

I do have these:
basic step and body fusion (which is still sealed) lol but now I'm not sure I will like it I'm really not a huge step fan...I may try to post it and see if someone will trade for something else:eek:)

high step circut

KPC and Legs and Glutes...love this one

Then I was going to purchase unless I can fiund someone selling these...which seems to be pretty hard...the pyramids, or gym style, then Muscle mx and now maybe the bootcamp.

I truly appreciate everyone's advice:eek:)

Oh yeah, MM, that's a great one. I've had a little luck on ebay, I ended up getting bootcamp/me really cheap. And someone is often selling GS.

Ok, now I understand the stress about what to buy, and about needing the schedules, although that's not me, I totally get it. :D

Check out the Rotations board, there are years worth of rotations on there.

If you buy on ebay, just be sure you don't end up with fakes. There are lots out there.

For core, I have Core Max and Ab Hits. I like Core Max but the sessions are long. Sometimes I don't have the time. Ab Hits is one I almost didn't get, but am soooo glad that I did get. It has ab routines from various older workouts and they are very effective and from 6-10 min in length, approx. She has it divided into 3 sections - can't remember the first, the second is plank work I think, and the 3rd, which I use the most, is straight core work.

Thanks

I'm hoping to find them a little cheaper...I do get nervous with ebay as well......with the fakes.

Great thread!

Thanks for asking this question (and for the responses!). I've been trying to build strength and definition but hadn't really considered strength vs endurance. It makes sense now! I had been doing mainly endurance, but now and wanting to build. It also makes sense to do cycles of 4-5 weeks of length.

My question is, do you see a real improvement following this method or is it just a preference? :)

I agree Shani, great question! I think I am finally getting the difference between endurance and strength training. I think what I have been doing is mostly endurance type stuff (BC, HSC, DM) alternating with straight cardio days. I might need to switch it to a strength rotation, but maybe after one more cardio / endurance rotation.
