Muscle and weight

I am 5'4 and have not been weighed in several months. I was weighed at the doctor on wed. and weighed 129 pounds. I have never weighed this much. My clothes all still fit and my bmi was normal range. I do cardio and stength train. Do I need to lose some fat or is this normal when you have muscle. I have noticed lately also my calorie intake has been below 1200. Any advice welcome.

If your clothes still fit and you weigh more than you ever have before, then I would think you have gained muscle. Can you tell if you are more defined? Congratulations!

It sounds like you have it pretty much under control. I'm a little worried about how many calories you are taken in. Are you doing fine with this amount of calories? Are you tired, or perhaps do not want to exercise. If so, you need more to eat, but eat clean, and stagger your calories.

Take care,

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

I have to agree with Janie.

I don't think you're eating enough - if you're going to be a fit, strong healthy chick, you have to eat :)

Bump those cals up with lots of the good stuff, lean protein, veggies, fruits etc and give the processed crap a miss.

All the best,
Liz N

I'd say it's due to the muscle. I'm 5'10 and I weigh 150 but i have 14% body fat. It makes a huge difference. If you can get your body fat measured and I think you'll be surprised. Besides, if your clothes fit I wouldn't worry about it. But, if you're exercising, you should definitely NOT be below 1200 calories - that's just not enough.

ITA with the above posters that you probably have nothing to worry about in the weight area BUT that cal intake is waaay too low! I am 36 and almost 5' 4". I too way about 129 pounds and my maintence calorie intake is in the 2000 cal range and my deficit intake to lose weight is 1500 and no less. You are starving your body (even if you don't feel hungry and you won't feel hungry if you've been eating like this for a while.) and at some point it will take it's toll. You really need to increase your calorie intake slowly with good foods. I'm not saying you HAVE to eat 2000 cals but I would increase it too 1500 atleast.

My BFF is in the process of losing weight. She was over 200 pounds when I first started training her and helping her with her diet. She got there by not eating enough. In addition she would also eat completely wrong when she DID eat but her calorie intake was seriously under par for her height, weight and age even to lose weight! I've got her working out 2-3x per week and have had her slowly increase her calorie intake with decent foods and she's lost 35 pounds!

I'm not saying you need to lose weight because you don't. I'm just using her as an example of what can happen if you starve your body.

Hope I didn't offend or sound too pushy. Just trying to help. :)

Not to hijack your thread, and I agree on the calorie topic, but Wendy I just had to say way to go with your work with your BFF!! Ah, and just a few short years ago you were working to get yourself back to pre-baby weight... :) Awesome work, girl!!!!
