Multivitamin Suggestions

I have been sick alot this winter and I don't seem to have any energy right now. I do not currently take a multivitamin so I would like to know what the rest of you take? I am 44 years old.

I take GNC's Active Formula for women without iron. It's the first vitamin I have ever taken that has actually helped me! I take the one without iron is because I don't have issues with low iron.

How big are the GNC pills? I have trouble taking pills but I like the fact that they don't have iron.

Depends on what you consider big. They are average for a vitamin I would say. They also carry a line called Be Whole that I had to get because they were out of my regular ones! These also did well and are a little bit slimmer than the Active vitamins. You get a 30 day trial, so if you try the GNC ones and find you can't swallow them, take them back and try the Be Whole.

I take Biotics Research Bio Immunozyme Forte. My nutritionist recommended it for the winter months to strengthen my immune system. I think it is working because I haven't been sick all winter. I also have a green drink every morning.

I avoid multivitimin pills, but take selected pills

I avoid taking multivitimins, and this is why. I used to take a "super" VM pill, back in the 80's. But I had a severe kidneystone attack, and found out that I had calcium/potassium build-up from the pills.

Also, and I hope not to start an angry argument on this thread with this, but there is a fairly reputabule literature that suggests that to much vitimin A and E can be bad for people (cancer causing?). I would check multivitimins to make sure they have low levels of A and E.

I do take vitimins from separate bottles: B6, B12, D, C, omega 3. I also take, on advice from my doctor, flax seed oil and saw palmetto berries, to reduce inflamation.

I also take Immune Assist 247 to warrd off colds and the flu. None since last September, when I first starrted these.

From my reading, most of the "experts" agree that most women should take fish oil and vitamin D. Many also agree that a multi is good, so I just take one of those, too. On days when I drink a protein shake I skip my multi since the one I use has a lot of vitamins in it. Personally, I also use "ImmuniC" which describes itself as a fizzy vitamin drink. It has a lot of the water soluable vitamins like the B-complex and C in it, plus zinc and some other things that I can't remember right now. I think one of those during cold and flu season can't hurt, but I probably won't use it in the summer.

If your diet is really excellent with a wide variety of different colored fruits and vegs, you might not need the multi. But if you're like most of us that aren't perfect, supplementing with a multi at least every other day is probably a good idea. You might ask at your local Vitamin Cottage or similar for ideas on brands.

Finally, an probiotic-containing drink like Kefir occasionally keeps the digestive tract happy. You many not need that, though.
