Multiple Schlerosis

Hello Cathe

Prior to last September I was lifting regularly with your tapes and running two miles a day. Early in September I began having symtpoms with a probably diagnosis of MS, leaving me extremely weak and numb. I would like to return to weights to at least maintain some type of muscle tone if my condition should become progressive. Do you have any clients with MS and would you make any recommendations. I am trying to at least walk again. My balance is much to precarious to attempt running.

Thank you.

Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,
I'm not Cathe but I wanted to respond because my mother has had MS for years. She was not very active prior to the diagnosis. Her balance was greatly impacted as well. She focused mostly on walking short distances when she was able. She also did some PT with bands and floor exercises. She also swam which seemed to help some.

I'd strongly advise that you talk to your doctor to get his/her suggestions. Hope this helps a little during this time. Hang in there-
Ann

Hi Kathleen! I'm sure that this has been a lot for you to digest since September and I admire your positive attitude. I think it is great that you are looking into options should your probable condition become more progressive. However, I truly feel that any exercise suggestions should be left to those who are qualified medical experts and physical therapists. Sorry I can't be of more help. Please let us know how you are doing. Take Care!

Thanks ladies for your input. Yes, everything has rather piled up on me in a few short months...stressful to say the least. I am making an appointment with a physical therapist. Even though I am still walking I don't think it is too early to start. Fortunately, we have a therapist in our little town so it will also be convenient. I have also decided to see a "counselor"...I had thought I could handle this on my own, psychologically, but having a chronic illness is proving to by one my biggest challenges...just realizing your life will never be quite the same. I am sure you know what I mean Ann...it is wonderful your mother has you. My daughter, Caitlin, lives with me and I don't know what I would do without her support right now.

Take care.

Kathleen

Thanks Cathe...I have three of your tapes that I ordered last September a few days before I had my "initial" attack. They are still in their wrappers but I hope that I can use them soon. I am making an appointment with the PT and will discuss weightlifting with her. I am certain it would be of benefit.

Take care.

Kathleen
