mp3 players....can we talk?

MP3 = ?

One question for you knowledgeable folks:
What does "MP3" stand for?
I'm guessing "music player 3," or something similiar. But then, whatever happened to 1 and 2? :)

RE: MP3 = ?

MP3 is the type of file that it plays. Sort of like a photo can be a jpeg or gif file, the music is an mpeg file. Mpeg3 files made it and mpeg 1 and 2 never caught on.

Funny, Dallas.
If you don't want the Hamster Dance at all any more, you can delete the song from your library and then update your 'Pod. I never delete a song from the library unless I discovere that the lyrics are not acceptable. If you don't want it on your iPod but you do want it on your library, uncheck the song in iTunes and then update songs on your iPod by selecting "Update iPod" under your file menu.
If for some reason this doesn't work, check your iPod preferences. You can choose to automatically update ipod with checked songs only, which is the default.

Thanks!

But what do the "M' and "P" stand for? Like in CD, "C" stands for "compact," and "D" stands for "disc." And "DVD" stands for "digital video (or virtual, depending on whom you ask) disc." (Just a curious linguist here!).

RE: MP3 = ?

Well YOUR acronym of music player makes more sense, but in reality it is Moving
Picture Experts Group who created this form of audio compression. That's a bit of trivia you may never need again. ;)

Thanks for the info! I can always find some situation to bring up trivia in.:D

So, I guess I'm going with the ipod 60GB ( gawd I hope that's right) anyway, it sells for about $270 at Costco and I am told that the customer service at Apple and Costco are the best.

Here I go, hope I'm making the best choice. You guys are great, I always learn so much here. deb:)

You should be able to fit your whole household's entire music collection on there FOR SURE!! And...if you are getting a 60GB for $270, you are getting a deal! I returned another mp3 player at Costco after opening it with no problem, so you should be set there. You can buy the Apple Extended Warranty at any time during the first year and they will serve you well for the duration, if you should need anything. I hope you LOVE it! :)

I can delete it?! I knew there had to be a way. When I tried before (a long time ago), I couldn't get the songs off for the life of me. Maybe iPod updated the software or something. When i got my second iPod I was so excited to start with a clean slate.

Hey, that Hamster Dance isn't too bad, but dd's Barbie Girl definitely has to go! :)

Thanks, I can't wait to see if it works.

Dallas
