More on Netflix

I've had an account for a year now, and was very satisfied a long time. HOWEVER, in last last couple of months, it seemed that even tho' I would return 3 movies at once, I'd get 2 back in time for the next weekend, and #3 would come on Monday. This held true even if a movie came from the local distribution center. It's like they are figuring on people not watching movies during the week, and that was largely true in my case. I was paying for unlimited movies with 3 out at a time.

I finally got disgusted enough to cancel my membership and start up with Blockbuster. I'll keep you posted as to how they work out for me.

Anybody else have that same problems with Netflix?

Honeybunch,

I posted about this on another Netflix post, I had them for a while and was satisfied until the last few months, when I became a victim of "throttling," basically where they hold your movies (or record them as arriving back to them later than they actually arrived) for a few days, to slow down your rental pace.

I'm trying greencine.com, as soon as we move. they promise no throttling!

I'm beginning to experience the same thing. Urghh!! I was so happy with them. Now I'm thinking of switching to Blockbuster also. I sent them an e-mail asking what was going on with the slow service. I haven't heard anything yet.

Buffy, they will tell you that you need to track when and how you are returning and receiving your movies. Then, if you actually do that, they will basically shrug and tell you it's the fault of the post office. I read about one guy who actually sent his movies back via return receipt, so he could prove Netflix to be liars. When he called them on it with proof they refunded his entire membership cost. :D

I may have been too hasty signing up for Blockbuster (I DO have a 2 week free trial). Is their service OK or do they throttle, too? They have the extra in-store free rentals which is nice because I have a store within easy walking distance.

Clearly my sister and I have too much time on our hands, because we actually googled all this stuff. :D Do the same and you'll find a bunch of websites with an "I hate netflix" theme.

As for Blockbuster, what I came up with is that they do throttle as well but it's not as prevelant as Netflix, according to their customers. I haven't used them so I can't say personally. Any blockbuster people here been throttled?

We've had the same problem. Haven't cancelled yet. We don't have cable, and basically the only entertainment money we spend is Netflix and our broadband service. I'm really angry with Netflix. I've reported movies lost before it took so long to get back to them. Maybe I'll try the return receipt thing.

We haven't had that problem yet.... live in MA...

Hmmm will have to watch...

My son currently is getting EVERY 24 DVD - seems we are always getting one.

I have had Blockbuster for a while now and still LOVE it. I have yet to have a day when they receive my movies and dont send new ones out that day. For example, I sent in my movies on a Tuesday, they receive AND send out on Wednesday, and get them on Thursday. It has been incredibly reliable for me.

Does Netflix email you when they receive them? I get emails for both send and receive.

And last night we went to Blockbuster and used my free online coupons and a free movie coupon and walked out with 1 game and 2 movies for free! Gotta love it!

Update on Netflix:

I'm in the process of cancelling, and have just 2 DVD's out which I'll return Sunday. I had a third DVD out that I'd returned TO A LOCAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER (which normally they would get the next day) on Monday, May 1. I had not gotten an e-mail notification that they'd received it, so I reported it as lost this morning. Low and behold, they found it! Imagine that! I can't tell you how many times this has happened - I'll send a movie back on the weekend, will hear nothing from them on receiving it; I'll report it missing, then they say they find it instantly! Sound fishy to you?

I heard they were slowing down recirculating your next picks if you were viewing movies you received fast. We had the same problem. Tracked it, talked to other people. Irritating.

Netflix DOES email when they receive them, at least most of the time, except when I suspect they hold them like I think they did this week with the DVD that magically appeared when I reported it "lost."

I DO love the Blockbuster free movie coupons - that's a real bonus!
