More about clothes

Bunbun's clothing thread reminded me of this. I have a closet full of clothes that I never wear. I just wear the same few outfits over and over again and the rest never see the light of day. I think I choose the clothes that have the most comfy waistbands.

Does anyone else do this or am I just weird?

I think most of us do this, and the key is to be able to let go of the clothes you know you'll never wear. If you ain't worn it in a year, get rid of it!

Yeah, sometimes I have to force myself to wear things that I'm not in love with.... simply because I paid good money for them and I feel guilty letting them collect dust in the closet!

I also had numerous closets full of clothes I don't wear anymore! Not because they don't fit, but my sense of style changes!:p :p We moved to VA. Beach last Nov. from NY. That was a good thing, because it forced me to go through my closets, (before the movers came:p ) and give away things that I will never wear. Now, I continue to go through my closets, and the kids things, and I donate alot to the local women's shelter. It is good to let go!;-) ;-)

Well I am thinking of getting rid of most of my belly tops. Everytime I wear them out my son gets embarrassed and I got people staring at my belly. You think it was a yucky muffin top belly or something. I got a great hard flat stomach, but I don't want people staring like I am strange for wearing them so I dunno. Can't seem to part with them all. And what bothers me is when some of the teen girls where them with their muffin top bellies, no one is staring at them and I think it is gross!

Nancy, I am soooo like that, particularly with my work clothes. Honestly, I think it's just easier because I know x outfit looks good, feels good, and wears well, as opposed to other stuff that may be slightly uncomfortable and/or wrinkle easily or whatever. Honestly, lately I have been taking a hard look at my shopping habits and now will not buy anything unless I absolutely love it on. Otherwise it just feels like clutter!

Marie,
I have taken on the exact same view! I only buy it if I love it. If I have to think about it then it is just not coming home with me.

I also now clean out my closet at the beginning and end of every season. It feels great to get rid of the clutter, keeps me from getting to set in my ways with particular clothes/styles and I get to donate to those who will apperciate the clothes. :)

My humble opinion is: If what you're wearing is yielding unwelcome reactions, don't wear it!

Nancy,

You have just described my closet one week ago. My husband was complaining about it - so he offered to help me go through it. It was great - he helped me get rid of things that I don't wear. If I didn't wear it at least once during the last season, then it got bagged - by him! It was so much easier - I just couldn't be the one to bag it! - Weird huh?!?

I had to update my badly outdated wardrobe a few years ago, so most of my clothes are now things that I actually wear (that and I also moved, and donated most of the old things that I don't wear anymore). Still, I do find that I have favorite outfits that I wear over and over, wearing them out. And I think I am also strange in that I tend not to wear my really good clothes (inevitably things that I really love) because I don't want to ruin them or wear them on a nonspecial occasion--so they hardly ever see the light of day.

Yes, I do this too! But you know, when I am at my low-down weight, I wear more of my clothes, even the ones with uncomfortable waists because I feel so good about how I look! Finally figured this out because I am attempting to finally stabilize at that weight. It's working - slowly. Been at it 3 months and only needed to lose 17 lbs but you know, I'm learning a new skill.
Also, I agree about the belly tops. I have a few but I am not an extrovert and I don't like the looks. It's like any woman who looks older than a college girl can't wear that (it is a rule some place???). My solution is that I wear them with a sweater or hoodie or something so that a little bit shows and I can cover it up if I start feeling uncomfortable. I am not giving them up because they give me that mental boost about being fit enough to wear them, at age 44.

edited to say "only needed to LOSE 17 lbs"...but I think I like the typo better! "...love 17 lbs" LOL

Thank GOODNESS I learned this trick from some show (can't remember which one) about 5 years ago...At the beginning of a new season (spring's a GREAT time to start!), I turn all of my hangers backwards...If I have something that's still backwards at the end of the season, it goes to Goodwill...Now, there are times when I've got that one shirt I just CAN'T bear to get rid of, but this helps ALOT! PLUS, this gives room in the closet for NEW stuff!

This thread has motivated me to tackle the closets and dresser drawers. It's out with the old and never worn, and maybe, in with the new.;-)

Thanks for jumpstarting my closet purge.:)

No Nancy..you're not weird, at least not about this topic...haha. Just kidding. I think most of us wear just a fraction of the clothing that we have. I seem to have my favorite things that I reach for time and again. And what's this about comfy waistbands? I love your new Avatar which I just checked out, and you couldn't be tinier!!! Have a great day!

Thanks Lisa, but that pic of me on a glacier in Alaska is from August, and that was 7 months ago. 7 LONG months ago. Sigh. I just bought a top today in size Petite Large, which officially makes me a jumbo shrimp. x(
