Montreal Recommendations

My husband and I are going to Montreal for a weekend get-away within the next few weeks. Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants that they've liked or any "must do's" or "must see's" while we're there? We're going before Christmas, so a little shopping will definitely be in order. :D :D

I don't know anything about montreal but I do know that I am going there the next time I take a trip for shopping.I heard that they have awesome clothing stores and some great deals to.My hubby went last year for the rolling stones concert.
Anyway,I will keep an eye on your posting so that I will know where to go:)

Hi Gayle,

I am in Montreal. What kind of food do you like - there are a billion excellent restaurants here so if you give me an idea of a favorite type of food, I'll try to make a suggestion.

You definitely want to go see old Montreal (although its much more active in the summer) and that would be a nice area to eat out.

There are tons of museums and things like that if you'll have time. If you are coming for shopping and staying downtown, then you can just walk up and down St. Catherines street - shopping for miles and miles and miles. There are also several malls along St. Catharines street that are attached by underground walkways so you can travel indoors for a long way as well.

If you like casinos, we have a fab casino right on the water and they have shows there as well.

If you give me an idea of what kinds of things you like to do, I'd be happy to help you find more things!

Let me know if you need anything else - I'd be happy to help. Have you already got a hotel?

:)

Hi punky3333,

We're staying at the Hotel Le Saint Sulpice in old Montreal. Hubby has never been to a casino, so we do plan to hit that for a few hours. Other than that, we're open to anything – museums (art, science), shows, etc.

We like all kinds of food, but I’d love to get some good Thai or Vietnamese. Also, I’d love to try a good French restaurant.

Thanks so much for your help!

ok, here are three suggestions:

Le Restaurant S (which I think is at the bottom of your hotel!) - Address: 125 Rue St. Paul West - Phone: 350-1155

Cube Restaurant - very trendy, fun place - Address: 355 McGill PHone: 876-CUBE

French restaurant: Pierre du Calvet Address: 405 rue Bonsecours
Phone: 514-282-1725. Its also an inn, but the restaurant is fabulous.

here is a link with a picture:

Most of these suggestions are relatively expensive restaurants but excellent food.

There are billions of restaurants in old montreal alone!

Enjoy shopping on St. Catharine street - for miles and miles above and below ground.

Walk around Old Montreal - tons to see - if you are brave in the cold you can take a horse and buggy ride for an all around tour - they throw big blankets on you to keep you warm!

Let me know if you need any other info ok?

:)

You're in for a treat at this time of year. The Christmas lights downtown are so pretty at night...

Along a fitness line...would you consider going skiing? There are many ski centres within an hour's driving distance of Montreal. On Mount Royal you can get a terrific view of the city (it's a mountain in the middle of the city, you can't miss it - just walk uphill!), and at Beaver Lake you can skate, and as well I've gone sliding with friends down a hill with cheap Crazy Carpets (The Kid in me)!

Montreal is a place to try foods of all nationalities. One place i like is the Nil Bleu (Blue Nile), a terfific Ethiopian restaurant on 3706 St. Denis. Tel: 285-4628

Le Taj has some great indian food 2077 Stanley Tel 845-9015

Here's a great site on Montreal Restaurants. There are lots of reviews. Select 'Downtown' in the Area section, as well as the price range and cuisine you're looking for. There are thousands of restaurants in this city (no kidding).

Here's a tip - save the downtown shopping for COLD days you don't want to spend much time outside! All the malls are linked underground, so you never have to venture out of doors!

While in Old Montreal, you should see Notre Dame Cathedral. The stained glass is breathtaking. Take a horse and buggy ride dwon the old cobblestone streets, and get a nice tour of the old city.

Enjoy your trip! If you're into museums and such, there are plenty around, and I'm sure you can get the information at your hotel.

Bienvenue a Montreal! (Welcome to Montreal!)

Excellent suggestions Jennifer - I always want to help but for some reason when it comes to things to do, I just lock up. I'm never sure what the person likes, so its hard to steer them in the right direction.

Have we ever met? About a year or maybe it was more now ago we had a get together here in Montreal where we went to the fitness show. I think you were going to come and then couldn't at the last minute because you were studying or something right?

I was just curious because its so cool to have a fellow fitness person in Montreal, who gets excited with new videos and all!

:)

Hi Jodi!

You're right, I couldn't make it to the fitness show a while back. I now just moved off the island this past summer to Ile Perrot, and I'm loving it. My husband and I still work in the city though. Listen, did you order the new Cathe BodyBlast series? I did thru CK Sales, and it's driving me crazy that they haven't arrived yet...;(

Hey Jennifer,

I live pretty close to you - am in Beaconsfield. If you ever want to meet, I belong to Vitavie gym here and we could go do a class together if you felt like it.

I got my body blast DVD's from CKSales last week. Strange yours haven't arrived yet. Did you get a notice that they had shipped? I got a notice when they left CKSales - maybe you should check with them.

Its so cool to have a person so close to me that is into home workouts. Do you do other stuff besides Cathe?

We need to set up another Montreal get together sometime. I had a blast meeting all the people!

Jodi and Jennifer,

Thanks so much for the information and recommendations! All those restaurants sound really good. I'm going to have a hard time choosing just a few to try...looks like a second trip will be in order. :D :D

We're planning to head up Thursday morning (driving up from central Vermont). From the weather reports I've seen, it looks like it may be slow going.

My husband has never been to Montreal and I haven't been there in years, so we're both very excited about our visit, especially since it's so close to us.

Thanks again!!

Hi Gayle,

I hope you made it up here - we are having some wicked snowstorms! Looks like they may subside today so you may just be lucky.

Let us know what you ended up doing. I hope you have a great time here - its a great city!

Take care,

Jodi
