Moms, what would you do?

Okay, DD 8 is getting over a cold (seems to be taking forever!) and she still has a nasty, lingering cough. She is supposed to have a swimming lesson tomorrow. Any opinions/advice on whether I should send her to the pool coughing?

If she seems fine, but has a cough you might let her try and if it seems to be to much bring her home. Just a suggestion.

I wouldn't if only for the fact that being in water swimming tends to produce lots of snot and phlem and that could irritate her cough. I hope that she feels better soon! :) I hate it when they get sick; I hate it more when they have to miss out because they are sick. :( hugs to DD! :D

Jenn - I'm going to see how she is in the morning.

Thanks Missy. I'm only unsure because next weekend is her birthday party and yeah, you guessed it... we've rented the pool. I don't want to make her worse so she can't enjoy her own birthday party!

Hi Shelley,

I'd keep her home tomorrow and allow her body to rest and recoup for the birthday party.

I swim and my two kids are swimmers, the 18 year old a guard now, the 13 year old still on team. If they are coughing a lot they don't swim because it is hard to breath in, and then have a coughing fit. Add to that if it is chilly, and she gets wet, you could make her worse. She will have more swim lessons in her life, missing this one will not hurt her.

Thanks Dorothy. She's missed the last two weeks, and there are only two more, but it's not important if it's going to make her worse. That's my inclination too.:)
