Mom's of Terrific Two Year olds

Hey ladies! Can you believe it, baby Justin will be TWO years old tomorrow? I know Justin is the "baby" of this group. Hummmm. Pretty soon we will be Moms of Kindergarteners. Hummm. It's kinda sad isn't it?

Oh, but how fun this age is!! Justin loves to jump. He jumps really high. I often call him "Jumpin Justin". He likes it best with his shoes on b/c it makes a loud noise.

He also loves his matchbox cars, he makes vroooommmm & beeeeeep noises all day long.

He loves his big brother Jory; Justin's eyes light up when Jory comes home from school and plays with him.

Most days he takes only one nap now...but he has a 2nd 'quiet' time where he plays quietly in his crib for 90 minutes or so with his books and a few interactive Leap Frog toys. Aren't leap frog toys the greatest?

Justin's newest thing? He took of his t-shirt at the dinner table tonight.

He's the greatest, and I love him so much!!!!

How are your two year olds doing?

ACTIVE AND STRONG WILLED. And so darn funny. We have this incredible gag reflex that most of my kids have had and tonight Noah was starting to gag and I knew he was going to throw up and I said "Noah quick come here". And he proceeded to run the other way as fast as he could and while he ran he threw up and with his next step he slipped in the throw up (just like in the cartoons) with his foot out and then fwoop right on his back (we have hardwood floors - slippery when wet). Bethany my dh was watching and started laughing hysterically and then I couldn't stop laughing and my nephew came in and laughed...it was contagious. Noah was then laughing thinking he was QUITE FUNNY. Oh my....I have never liked kids throwing up....but this time it made us laugh. He is just so sweet too. He has been getting away with coming in our bed about 1/2 the night through and I haven't been able to say no. I love little ones!!

So nice of you to start a two year old thread Mel...I was going to post on the postpartum thread since technically I am :7 :7 REALLY REALLY postpartum right????

Workouts as follows:

Mon P90X Chest and Back, HSC with my dh,51 min timesaver
Tu GS legs Tai Kwon Do at night
Wed P90X Shoulders and Arms, 500 walking lunges
Th S&H Legs, GS Chest and Tri's
Fri: IMAX III, TJ 20 minutes plus end of Cardio Party 1
Sat GS Shoulders, Back, Bi's (in that order) L&G at night
Sun PH

How are your killer cardio workouts going Mel???? I have been doing really well sticking to mine, except for 2 days week before last, but some days I've added in two workouts am and pm so it's working out.

Noah only takes one nap for MONTHS. He does get tired and goes to bed around 7-8. He is up EARLY like 5-6. Blessings

Oh yes...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JUSTIN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JUSTIN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR JUSTIN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!:7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7

Happy Birthday Justin!

Alexis, like all her internet friends is a true toddler! She is still a calm child but in true toddler form loves saying No,no, no!!!! she is back to throwing food but will clean it up when asked. She is into Barney big time and pulls out the tapes she wants to watch. She is still a true girl and now prefers wearing dresses. She kissed a little boy in the gymboree store sat. night! She is still petite at about 32 inches and weighing in 2 weeks ago at a whopping 21 pounds!

Thanks Elyse & Lori for your kind words on postpartum checkin. So you think my wt loss was just water wt? I hope not. I hope it stays away. My clothes are still much too tight to be comfortable. I'd like to lose another 5 lbs before I go back to work. :)

I don't want to say that it's JUST water weight as you are post partum and your body IS going to loose weight Mel...but when you low carb water weight tends to drop immediately. Carbs hold water in your system and when you cut carbs you loose that layer of chub on the outside of your body which is water weight and it usually occurs right away. Dr. Elson calls it the false fat layer (from the False Fat Diet book). Stick with a healthy diet and your weight will continue to just "MELT AWAY". (did that sound like a cover of a magazine or what :) :) :) :) ). Your doing great Mel!!!! You impatient girl you.

Briee

Briee, your just as bullheaded as me, and you know it!! Now, please give me that seseme/flaxseed ball receipe again. I"ll do my best to make it right this time!!!!

Have you read the Ab Diet? The author swears by flaxseed for calcium source. :)

Yes I am....did ya read my post on the other thread regarding shopaholic's advice and your "listening" abilities??:p :p :p

No I haven't read the Ab diet, but I'm so excited to hear that flaxseed is a great source of calcium. I wasn't aware of this part of it...I always think of the fiber etc. That's so cool. I worry about getting calcium as I don't eat dairy (I do eat yogurt though and get some there). You will loose ab fat when you lo carb NO DOUBT there. I have had 6 kids and I have flat abs, but LOTS of loose skin. LOTS. I gained sooooo much weight with the first four...I looked like I was having twins. Just please don't push too hard Mel....you just had a baby. There is this whole shift of weight that takes place postpartum and mega hormones that you are dealing with and give your body time to settle back into it's nonprego state. DO NOT FORCE IT. I'll have to check out that book. Blessings and prayers for patience sent your way. :7 :7

Briee

Melanie, you had a baby not even 8 weeeks ago. You were pregnant for 40 weeks, why do you think you will already have your prepreggo shape back? Also, remember your body needs some fat for nursing.

I need to just be blunt and get it out of my system. Those low carb diets are crazy! I can't believe you guys follow that. Of course it works because you are peeing out all of that protein you eat ($$$) and you are exhausting your kidneys.

I am having some success with weightloss finally. I have changed my diet, instead of trying to up the exercise, which I am just not having a lot of time for lately.

Max is sleeping in a queen bed in our guest room, until we buy him something for his room. It is kind of working out - some nights he goes right to sleep, some nights he frolics for over and hour. I have to tell shopaholic that Max hugs and kisses a lot and is very tender (you mentioned that girls don't seem to be as cuddly). I wonder how Lily will be.

I have been stranded at home with the kids for several weeks because my car is in the shop (I'm an idiot and I wrecked it!). I hope to get it back this weekend. Max needs to get out! And there is no food in the house. Also, I don't seem to do as well this time of year. The holidays are over, it's back to the daily grind and anything to look forward to is a ways off. Anyone else feel this way?

Emy...I love people who are blunt and don't beat around the bush. I also LOVE conviction and people who live by them. I also LOVE your posts.....too funny - especially this time.

Let me clarify my diet. I have not read the Atkins diet. I have heard enough to know that it's dangerous. BUT I know what works and when you cut carbs as in breads, pasta, crackers and stick with LOADS OF VEGGIES, juiced carrots, barley green, flax seeds and some protein (for some that may be nuts, chicken, eggs, tuna, fish, I still will never eat red meat - just can't stomach it after being vegan for so many years) you will loose that fat layer that soooo many women are complaining about. I have had 6 babies and last I measured my abs (waist) is 26 inches and hardly any fat around the middle. My tush was almost 10 inches bigger at one time and my weight at 160 lbs. It is about 105 right now (I'm just a hair under 5'3). When I add breads etc...I immediately gain weight. If you pick up a copy of any weightlifting mag you will see sample diets that are all boringly the same. Oatmeal and eggs white in the morning, big salad at lunch with tuna or chicken on it, and veggie, with some other protein for dinner. It just works and that's life. So until someone gives me a better diet...I'm sticking to mine. I have a protein shake EVERY morning and have for 2 years (consists of protein powder, 1/4 cup ground flax seed, plain homemade yogurt, tiny bit juice, amino acids). I take coconut oil about 3 times a day. I get lots of good fats and lots of veggies...my cholesterol levels are 138 last I checked. My doctor's on a low fat diet to lower his cholesterol and I told HIM what to do to lower it....but he doesn't agree. Oh well. Everyones different right. SO THERE!!! :p :p :p :p

AND ....I sure hope you didn't wreck the car while your kids were in it....I'm sure you would have told us if they were hurt so I'm assuming they weren't. Are you okay????? What a bummer. Wish we could meet for mommy/child play time!!! Want to come to Wisconsin? I'll serve you a salad with plain chicken breast on top for lunch....(big smiley guy inserted holding veggies and protein powder-he he)

Briee (sorry I usually don't go into all that...but I just HAD to respond to your comment, you know I love ya :7 :7 :7 )

After rereading my post I thought to myself....."I'll probably drop over of a heartattack tomorrow - just watch!! x( x( x( .

Briee (God has incredible ways of proving us wrong just when we get incredibly self righteous - I've had it happen many times in the past)

No, I don't think your post was self-righteous at all. I was hesitant to post what I said about low carb diets. It sounds like you eat not low carb, but better carbs.

That is actually how I have been losing weight lately. I saw the book eat to live in the open forum, and got it at the library and instantly liked what I read. I am following it fairly well. It works for me anyway, since I am vegetarian (not vegan, but eating less dairy since reading the book). I think not keeping butter in the house has really helped! I can't make a batch of cookies now -which has been a good thing for my weightloss!

PS - I meant to tell you that my episiotomy didn't hurt anymore after having Lily but I forgot (but I guess you know since you saw it on the other thread). I don't know if you remember sharing your experience with me, but I will always remember the "if you perform an episiotomy on me, I will perform one on you!" :+

You are funny, but seriously, I hope not!!!!

Okay, I'm here! I"m so glad you posted what was on your mind, Emy. We wouldn't be friends if we couldn't express ourselves, right?

I"ve been on this "low" carb diet now for 8 days. Since I began, I've been eating healthier than I have my entire life!! Not only that, but I've lost 5 lbs since I last checked. My abs are not flat by any means. My jeans fit better, but are not comfortable. The most amazing thing of all is I've lost my sweet tooth too! I was drinking up to 3 cans of MtDew/day (which can;t be good for baby) plus cookies & anything else I wanted. Basically, I'm a carb-addict. This modified diet has given me an opportunity to be healthier & trimmer. I've cut out bread, pasta, and rice. I eat "sandwhiches" wrapped in romaine lettuce leafs instead of bread. For now, most of my carbs come from fresh raspberry/strawberry smoothies that I have 2 times daily & fiber. How much healthier can I be? BTW, I do add protein powder to smoothies. ;)

As far as wt goes, I have to do what feels right to me. I'm really tough on myself (always have been), but I do find that to be a good quality in the long run. I've never looked back at myself and said, "you were too hard on yourself". The bad part is I tend to hold my immediate family to my high standards, which is something I'm working on. If I want to be tough on myself that;s one thing...but to force it on another is often not the right thing to do.

ok, enough babbling!!

Hi ladies!

I'm cooking chicken breasts as we speak, but I'm not on a low carb diet. I do tend more towards carbs and fat though, so I am making a conscious effort to eat a bit more protien. I tend to be a calories in/calories out type person as my husband and I love all kinds of foods and are loathe to give them up completely. I'd probably have an easier time with weight loss if I were a super "clean" eater.

What I stress out about is postpartum thyroid disorder which affects about 10% of women. I know 4 women who have this and it turned into a permanent thyroid problem for them all. I would be soooo frusterated if I was trying to lose weight and couldn't do it. And I hate the idea of being on medication. I have not had this happen yet, but there is a first time for everything. My husband says if we had a dollar for every worry I had that did not come to pass, we would be rich. ha ha, but I'm paying attention to thyroid problem symptoms anyway.

Anyhoo--Bardric (along with older brother Malcolm) just seems to be stuck in a phase where he would rather dump the toys out of the box and scatter them around than play with them. All of our children went through a destructive phase, it's just that now I have two of them going through it at the same time, because of Malcolm's developmental delays. It's a good thing they are so sweet and cute otherwise}( .

Bardric, who I thought might experience some jealousy, has simply "moved over" for the baby. I still give him and Malcolm plenty of cuddles, because they still want and need them, but I am surprised that no one has attempted to shove the baby off my lap or anything. Bardric will come over and pat her in that rough 2 year old way and say sweetly, "It's a baby" and then in progressively more growly and silly voices, "It's a baby!", because he knows it makes me laugh. He is still not terrifically verbal, but I think it's because he does not have the inclination to really begin speaking (rather than lacking ability.)

Our house is a mess almost all the time, even though it gets picked up and mostly cleaned everyday. If social services were to pop by, I'm not sure what they would think (Don't worry, there is no poop on the floor or anything) It just looks as if a strong wind has gone through the house.

I am looking forward to working out, beginning next Friday (the 27th), because I have lots of weight to lose, which will come off eventually as long as that dreaded thyroid thing does not happen.

take care all--it's fun to hear about what everyone else's toddler is doing.

What a long post. I guess I need to get out more:7

Maggie:)

Emy...I've been wanting to get that book. So you liked it!! I'm going to have to get it now. Eat to live. That's on my to do list this week!!! Mel...I know what you mean by pushing yourself hard. That's the ONLY way I get results and remained focused and happy in the long run. I frustrate myself at times...but without a goal I give up. And WE ARE HERE to keep reminding you that you just had a baby because obviously baby isn't reminding you enough. Is he sleeping through the night now????? Maybe if he wakes up a few times you'll remember..."oh yeah..I just had a baby...I've got to give my body time to adjust and then it will be right back to my skinny self in no time :7 :7 :7 ".

Maggie. I'm glad your doing well and all are enjoying the baby!! Mine never had problems with jealousy either. Except lately Hannah and Noah both try to sit on my lap and they end up in a pushing match trying to be right in the center. Don't know why this came up all the sudden. They are usually pretty good buddies and are looking more like twins all the time. (especially since Hannah found the scissors and completely cropped her hair right to the scalp in places. The ambulance driver thought she was a little boy until I explained what she did a few weeks ago. Oh yes..the ambulance...that's a whole nother story. My ds wants on the computer so I'll have to explain later.)x( x( x(

Briee--

Can't wait to hear the ambulance story. I'm assuming that all is okay, right?

Finally got time to post....you know this WONDERFUL addition that is going up (that is said very sarcastically)...well, my nephew was sanding walls and doing a clean up, for the hundredth time, and Hannah was playing out in that part of the house. I didn't even realize that she was out there as we were homeschooling. Well I believe this is what caused the problem. She came in at 11am and coughed a little and it had that "croupy" sound. I thought, "oh no...not again..is she getting sick". So I called the nurse to ask for whatever it was they prescribed last time that I never filled. (Hannah was at the hospital about 3 months ago when we all had a cough type of virus - her's became so croupy that she had a hard time breathing and we took her in in the middle of the night and they gave her a breathing treatment and prescribed some kind of nebulizer (and steroid shot to relax her lungs) if this ever happens again - but I never filled it thinking this would probably NOT happen again). We've had 6 kids and always got through croupy episodes with steam and cool air. Well the nurse finally called back around 1 pm and said "could you bring her in...we need to see her before giving that prescription out again...even though you never filled it". Okay, fine, I'll bring her in if I have to. I put her coat on and on the way to the car she was upset about something and cried a little and then she tried to breath and just couldn't, she began to pass out and I ran in and called to dh (he had just got home from an early job). We jumped in the car and drove (way too fast) to the closest doctor's office - 7 miles away. Her lips were turning blue and she was breathing REALLY shallowly and labored. When we got there I ran straight back and they immediately started a nebulizer and this helped, but her chest was still sunken looking. So they said they needed to transport her by ambulance to the hospital. Sirens and all (about 20 miles away). They gave her an epinephrine treatment in the ambulance, and then another nebulizer treatment with steroid at the hospital. They assured me that she would be in ICU for a few days, but after being at the hospital for a few hours...she looked GREAT. Pretty good at least. So we all went home....THIS TIME WITH A NEBULIZER MACHINE...in case this ever happens again - but hopefully not (and three stuffed animals from all the different places she visited - she was happy). She see's a specialist on Monday (asthma and breathing specialist). Pray for me...I'm not too good with doctor's in general, but I know we have an acute problem which needs a solution. I believe she could grow out of it. It most probably was caused by the inhalation of dust in her tiny lungs. Oh my. Life is never dull. On a good note....DebbieH (of Cathe's forum) called while I was at the hospital and talked to my oldest son. I was able to speak with her the following day....she is JUST THE SWEETEST, NICEST, MOST HELPFUL person. I'm hoping to start teaching classes for our local women and hopefully at church and she has great advice!!! That was the highlight of my week. I don't need anymore excitement this week.

Briee

Wow Briee! You've been through a lot this week. :( I'll pray for your little Hannah! How scary. This sounds like an acute problem, not necessarily a chronic issue. Hang in there. :)
