Moms 2 Be Check In: July 10

FiddleFit

Cathlete
Hi! It's already mid-July ;( Summer goes by so fast.

My last week went as follows:

MON: Step Max
TUES: SJP Step; Super Sets
WEDS: Totally Cool Step
THURS: Body Fusion; Basic Step Upper Body Add-on
FRI: KPC
SAT: Body Max
SUN: Rest

This past week I decided to take things down a notch by removing most of the impact from the step workouts.

Julie - I may be getting you mixed up with someone else, but were you the person who had the terrible bladder pressure that sent you to the ER for a day? Or was that Kristie? If it was you, how are you doing with that? (My apologies if I'm getting mixed up).

Kristan - Step Works is one of my favourite steady state Cathe cardios. I love the choreography in the 2nd combo; it seems to flow so well.

Dana - you did 200 walking lunges last week?? My hat is off to you!! I've been getting a sharp pain on the lower front right side of my abdomen during some of my workouts. I'm assuming it's just ligament pain, and it's not constant, so I don't worry about it too much. It would be a real challenge to exercise if I had it all the time, though.

Adrienne - week 14 and you hadn't gained a pound?? I think by then I'd *gained* 14 pounds! Pregnancy is certainly an individual experience for all women. Makes those weight gain charts seem pretty useless.

KC - have things at work settled down for you a bit this past week? Between work and your DH's health problems, you've had quite a lot of stress on your plate! You had a great exercise week last week. When you do intervals workouts, do you modify at all?

Melanie - So, this will be boy #3?? Wow! May I ask why you're having a scheduled c-section? Were your previous births c-sections? Your week of exercise was terrific, btw. The impact moves in KickMax BC premix and Cardio Kicks would kill my bladder at this point ;(

Maggie - All that hiking, carrying all that stuff! Whew!! I can't imagine you could gain any weight with that kind of activity, no matter how much you ate!

Have a great week everyone!
Sandra

Clarification: I have no idea if this baby will be a boy. I opted not to find out at u/s. Based on heartrate, my ob said it COULD be a boy. I don't but too much confidence in sex prediction based on fetal heartrates. ;)

I just posted my workouts yesterday, not realizing there would be an updated posted a day later, so will go ahead & re-post. ;)

Sun: KickMax bootcamp premix
Mon: 5 mi run
Tue: off
Wed: 3 mi run
Thurs: off
Fri: Cardio Kicks
Sat: 5 mi walk ---it was in the mid-90s today, no way I could run even at 7pm!!!!

Weight wise I've gained about 10 lbs already, the good news is that I'm about 5 lbs lighter than I was at these time last pregnancy...so I'm happy. Hopefully the weight will shed off quickly as last time.

My clothes don't fit. I got some cute capris at Kohls & even had to buy a pair of shorts. I also HAD to get a new pair of sandles. I LOVEEEEEEEEE shoes.

Feeling good, I've had the week off of work & have had an opportunity to nap everyday this week. Monday's going to be tough for me!

Gotta go. :D

Oh, forgot to add that my last delivery was via Csection. I had the option & I opted for a repeat Csection. My platelets were low during my last pregnancy so the anethesiologist refused to give me an epidural. My labor was hell pain-wise. After several hours of back pain with no urges to push & trying all sorts of different techniques (squating, getting on my knees/hands, getting in bathtub, you name it...) Justin wouldn't get past the "lip" of my cervix. So I opted for a CSection b/c I couldn't handle the pain anymore. I don't want to go through THAT again.

However, I"m hoping the anethesilogist will be gracious enough to give me an epidural during my Csection this time. Last time they gave me a general & I didn't get to see Justin until he was about 6hrs late. DH was already at home. :( :(

There it is folks, my last labor story in a nutshell. ;)

Hi everyone!

I posted this last weeks workouts on the last thread and I don't feel like doing it all over, so if you care to look its over there. Basically a lot of hiking in the mountains with a 30 lb pack on my back(toddler+pack+water)

I am feeling much better and although I am extremely hungry much of the time, I am having an easier time controlling my calorie intake than during the 1st trimester. This should slow the weight gain down. I also retain a lot of water during pregnancy, which accounts for some as well, I suppose.

I see the doctor for the first time Thursday and I am going to have them run a thyroid test, because one of my greatest fears is that my thyroid will crash (or already has) I know several women who have had this happen.

I hope everyone is doing well!

take care
Maggie
14 weeks today!!!

Hi everyone! It's very inspiring to see how active you all are. :)

I managed four workouts this past week. Over the weekend of the 4th, my husband and I traveled to our friend's vacation house in the Ozarks (in Arkansas). I did swim quite a bit in the nearby lake, which was the cleanest lake I've ever seen.

Sun: Lake swim

Mon: 9.5 hour drive back from Arkansas, was too tired to do anything when I got home

Tue: Cardio and Weights

Wed: Worked late, no workout

Thu: Worked late again, no workout

Fri: Low Max step-only premix

Sat: Sporty Step portion of Cardio Toolbox (Mindy Mylrea), then Push-Pull. I had planned on doing the kickbox step section of Cardio Toolbox, but Mindy wore me out, so I'll save it for another day.

I am truly amazed that I still haven't gained any weight by week 15. I'm five foot eight, 163 lbs, medium build, size 10, with muscles (thank you, Cathe). The 24/7 nausea went away about three weeks ago. Since then, I have been trying to eat several small meals per day instead of three larger meals.
I had gained about ten pounds before I got pregnant from "nervous eating", as a result of worrying about why I wasn't getting pregnant right away. (It took nine months.) Can I count that as pregnancy weight gain? OK, maybe not. ;-)

Take care, and I look forward to reading everyone else's posts.

Baby #1 due 12/30/05

Hi ladies. I had a decent workout week, got in 4 workouts.

Sun & Mon: nothing
Tuesday: walked 1 mile and did the shoulder workout from this months Oxygen
Wednesdsay: walked 1 mile and did PS Back/Biceps/Abs
Thursday: walked 1 mile and did PS Chest/Shoulders/Triceps
Friday: 20 min on the elliptical and segment #3 from Stretch Max
Sat: nothing; I drove to CT (from PA) so I was busy

Are any of you getting "hot flashes"? I am so hot I can't stand it. I have been having the A/C blasting, even when it doesn't really need to be on; I can't sleep with any blankets on; I'm sweating so bad. It is horrible. I did not experience this with my first pregnancy. I also have gotten a cold and I feel like crap. I am so run down/drained - I really need a day to rest. Which I know is NOT going to happen.

Looks like you all have had some awesome workouts. :)

Have a great upcoming week everyone!

hi ladies,

well unfortunately i have some sad news to report. there will be no more workouts until after jaden is born. i am currently on bedrest for at least two weeks due to some spotting i was having. went to the dr. on thurs. because of the spotting and it seems my body is threatening preterm labor...so my dr. has banned me to bedrest.
good news is no contractions and/or dialation of my cervix and baby is looking great!

Oh Sunny I"m sorry to hear that. At least you're taking care of yourself and baby Jaden which is the most important thing right now. You'l have plenty of time for exercise later!

Take care of yourself and letting us know how things are going! I"ll be thinking of you! :)

RE: Best rest ideas for Sunny!

Sunny - that is aweful! I'll keep you and your little one in my prayers. But on the good side you are in the 30 + weeks - which is SSOOO much better for your litte one than if you were in the 20's still. Hopefully that little bugger will stay put! Keep us updated!

Here's some ideas to keep you busy: Ladies let's add to this list to help her have all kinds of ideas to keep her busy!

-Maybe it's a good time to pick up scrapbooking and make a book of your pregnancy?

-Oh, and books on tape can help when there is absolutely nothing on tv.

-I absolutely love the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series!!!

http://www.cco.caltech.edu/~gatti/gabaldon/gabaldon.html

other busy hands projects - quilting, cross stiching, knitting, drawing

I hope the ladies can help give some great ideas for you!

Unfortunately not much to report here:

Monday 4 mile run - first two miles broken up by pee breaks :p , and the last two miles ran back to back

Friday - 3 HOURS of walking around at Grants Farm - while not necessarily a workout per say, I'm sure I walked MILES going in cirlces around the farm, so I'm counting it as one of my activities

Saturday - 3 mile speed walking at a slightly hilly park pushing 70+ lbs w/toddler and jogging stroller

Sunday - was to be my weight day but saturday night I woke up with HORRIBLY PAINFUL leg cramps in my calve. I was sore all day in my calve and actually was limping for the first hour I was up :( . I didn't even want to try to workout as I was afraid of making it cramp again. Today finally it feels ok but I'm calling my dr today to see if there is a way to keep them at bay -aweful pg side affect!

I'm bummed at such a cruddy workout week but since DS is out of preschool it's been really hard to find time to get that fourth workout in. I work from home so I have to organize my day to get my work in, then house work, dinner made then everything else falls next. I am starting a 55 min swim class next week which will definately help me out! But on the plus side I'm still gaining slowly and am up to 10.5 lbs gained so far - so I figure if my weight is slowly getting on I'm doing something right and refuse to get to down on myself :)

ETA: Sandra that was me and thankfully it went away in the first trimester and hasn't returned! Not much you can do about it cause it's mostly to do with where the baby is at. She moved for me thankfully!

Julie- I will givwe you 'credit' for that workout at Grant's Farm. That's a big place!

Sandra- StepWorks used to seem so hard to me?!? Perhaps I am in better shape, or maybe the harder Cathe workouts put things in perspective.

Maggie- that is some serious hiking. I get winded carrying my kids up our stairs.

Sunndydelite- So sorry you have to deal with bedrest! I read a prenatal excercise book that had ways to 'exercise' on bedrest. Cannot remember the name, but by a chick named Bridget?!? In the meantime, here's what I would do: books, crosswords, organize 2005 taxes to date, update scrapbooks, set up online banking if you don't already use it, update correspondence, preaddress birth announcements, even christmas cards, scan photos, update web page, update calenders, including birthday/anniversary reminders, SHOP! online (including any wedding/shower gifts you need to buy), evaluate all of your bills, get on the phone, and try to trim costs (like call cell phone company, cable, phone and check out new deals).

Anyway, I've gained about 10 pounds, 6 in the last 5 weeks. EEK! Upon evaluation, I think 20-24 weeks is my 'gaining time' and i tend to taper off as the pregnancy progresses. I'm getting a little discouraged by the whole, "work out/still gain weight" thing, but I know this is the right thing to do for the baby and me, and makes things so much easier after the birth. My husband sweetly pointed out that he thinks I am gaining muscle and pointed out my "butt looks great."

Here's my weeK:

MOnday: Stepworks #3, Basic Step lower body add on (I think)
Tuesday: gym for 1 hour, cardio machines
Wednesday: CTX power circuit (even did the hi/lo-- not my thing)
Thursday: gym/upper body machines
Friday: walk after dinner
Saturday: Mega Step Blast w/u, cardio #1, Crunch pilates, 30 minutes
Sunday: swim 1/2 mile with kickbord

Overall, a good week, so I am feeling free to blow off parts of this week.

Kristan

Sunnydelite,

I'm so sorry you're on bedrest! Were you also on bedrest for a bit early in your pregnancy, for bleeding? How's the baby's movements? Still as active as normal? Is the baby head down yet? I second the statement by someone else that at least if you were to deliver early, Jaden has a great chance of thriving normally.

How complete is the bedrest? Can you get up to make yourself something to eat? Can you shower?

Keep us updated frequently, please. I'm thinking about you!

Sandra

thanks for the concern and the suggestions ladies. i will use them all!
sandra- i already started calling to see what bills we can lower, since we are now working off one salary. i was not previously on bedrest although i did spot on and off during my first trimester.

baby's movemements are fine. i looked up his name and found out it means ball of fire and he is just that...he kicks/moves so much, i am considering changing his name..LOL

Sunnydelite, I'm so sorry to hear about your bedrest. Take it easy. You'll get back into the groove with exercising after the baby is here safe and sound. I'm glad to hear the baby is looking great!

Hello Ladies! Sorry I've been AWOL lately. My workouts have been pretty much non-existent so there has not been much to report. However on Saturday morning I did get in a 2 mile walk, but the rest of the day I felt like my hips were grinding and my back started hurting. Must be a combination of the weight of the baby and relaxin in my system. I guess I might have to stick with weights when I exercise.

I want to let everyone know that you all are very inspiring. Everyone is doing great with the workouts.

Hi all! I hope this post isn't too long - I haven't had time to catch up with everyone regularly, but have been reading posts when I can.

Sunny - wow! bedrest... I hope it goes by fast. If you were in my neighborhood, I'd stop by and bring you a care package of magazines and puzzles...and some chocolates and flowers to pass the time :) If you can get to a computer, your library may be online - you could order up a bunch of videos, books, etc. and have them picked up by friend or family. I live in a rural area, but our library does that - it really saves on DVD rentals.

Melanie – I am so impressed with your running! I hope this labor goes better than the last two. I can’t imagine not having DH there when you finally got to meet your little boy! I hope he had a good excuse and brought you a REALLY nice present!!! (If not, there’s still time for him to make amends before #3 comes along :D Make sure he knows that!!!)

Adrienne – I’m glad your nausea is past – that part just stinks! It sounds like you’re doing great. I empathize with the ‘working late’ days – I get so frustrated when I have a plan at the beginning of the week and then have to flush it when things at work get crazy!

Dana – Did I ask you where in PA you are? I’m near Pittsburgh, but we are anticipating a move east one of these days. If you told me already, sorry! Hope your cold gets better soon – there’s not much worse than a summer cold…

Julie – It’s so hard to fit everything in, especially with little ones needing attention and work. Some weeks, it’s enough to just survive And, hey, you’re RUNNING! That’s impressive right there!!

Kristan – you have me chuckling at the ‘work out - still gain weight’ comment… I made a similar comment to a friend and she less than gently reminded me that I’m pregnant and that there’s ‘baby trying to grow in there for heaven’s sake!’ and what did I THINK was going to happen… So FWIW, I’m passing her comments on to you with a smile and a hug. :)

Sandra – Thanks for the thoughts. I’m just kind of letting it flow – most of the time, I find a lot of activity to be energizing, if that makes sense. I count my blessings daily: I really do like the work I do, DH’s condition isn’t life threatening, and the girls are more than I could have ever hoped for…plus, I feel so fortunate to be pregnant again – I just need to remember to enjoy it more instead of worrying about working out ;)

For the interval workouts, I don’t have to do much modification, yet. A few times I couldn’t do a lot of jumping due to nausea, but other than that, the only thing I’ve done is taken out one set of risers (I used to do it with two on each side – is that 8”?) This past week I did notice some BH- type cramping when I’m working out so I may have to rein it in a little.

I managed to get in a workout every other day, but don’t ask me to remember what they were. I came to the conclusion that IMAX 3 is probably going to have to go on the shelf until post-baby. I just can’t modify that one and get a satisfying workout. I end up pushing too hard… It’s really a lot of fun – too much fun for my own good, though, I think!

I still need to get the jogging stroller, but I also have to get more Cathe w/o's (I only have a few). My retention bonus finally came through, so hopefully there's a DVD multi-pack in my future. ;)

Hope everyone has a great week - enjoy the summer while it lasts!

Gracenote, we live in Central Pa (Bloomsburg). I think we're about 4 hours from Pittsburgh. Where are you planning on moving?

New here and so it'll take me a while to get to know everyone.. I will post what i have done for the last few days..:)

Sunday~4 mile walk in the AM and Power Hour in the afternoon
Monday~rhythmic step
Tuesday step portion of All step and Power Hour

I am planning to run later tonight.. DH is only home early a night or two a week so i gotta take advantage of that. I will probaly do rhythmic step again tomorrow.. I love that one!

Welcome Trish. My head still spins with this active pregnancy post. I certainly don't know everyone. I try to to focus on the newcomers & the ones that are closely due to my time. ;) Sometimes, when I'm really active I take notes. :D

Gracenote, DH wasn't there when I met my son b/c I was in labor from 8pm to about 3am. He had to get home to our oldest son!!!! I didn't get to hold my baby until 10 am or so. I was so groggy and out of it from the general anesthetic that I wouldn't have even recognized him!!! I"m sure he'll be at the hospital even LESS this time with TWO children at home to take care of. Plus we live an hour from the the hospital. ;)

Hi Melanie! I see we are both preg. w/ our thrid. My youngest two will be 20 months apart. I see yours will be a similar gap. Are you nervous at all? My son and daughter were 2 1/2 years and he was about totally potty trained so this will be really diffrent to have 2 in diapers for so long! I am excited, but wondering how I will do it lol. Do you know if this one is a boy or girl?
