Moment of Truth/Fall Check-in

Jane,

I'm busy cutting and peeling and cooking apples! Tomorrow I WILL have the baked apple smoothie the RIGHT WAY!!!!
:9

You'll be having those every day!! I cannot BELIEVE how good it is!! Do you bake your apples with cinnamon and Splenda? That's how I do it, no butter or anything else. I did add just a shake of extra cinnamon to my smooth when I made it.

Becky - I don't peel my apples, I just cut them in half and core them. The baked peeling adds a nice texture to the smoothie plus the fiber!!

Oh! Good tip Jane , about not peeling.....extra fiber, and makes it quicker to fix! I'm done now for today, but will remember that next time. We are going to an Apple Festival on Saturday, so I'll buy a bunch of apples there, and bake somemore. I always make applesauce too , some sweetened with splenda and some not sweetened at all and I use that in place of oil to bake with. What kind of apples are you using? I have Gala right now.
Yes, I make it with cinnamon and splenda. and I cubed them and they are in the freezer now in one cup containers, so I can just take one out for each smoothie. :)
I can't wait till tomorrow! :p

Kali, smoothies CAN be very healthy, it just depends how you make them. When you buy them at the mall, or wherever they are often full of calories and sugar, at home, you fix it how you want it. In my case, I use soy milk, splenda and tons of fruit. The other day I used a little bit of vanilla lite soy milk (but you can use skim), a banana, some pineappe and some coconut yogurt and ice, very tropical!!

My mom just called and invited me to eat with them ...they eat dinner at lunchtime, which I like to do too and she is fixing a very healthy meal, and YES I am going!! Ocean perch, fresh spinach, corn on the cob and salad. :9 Anyone want to join me??
I will turn down dessert.
;-) ;-)

Hi girls.

I needed to get out and don't feel that bad at all this morning so I took Joey for a walk this morning. It was nice to get out with him again. It was really windy but I still managed to sweat like crazy and I wasn't even walking fast! I took a shower first but now feel like I need another one! I hate when that happens! x(

My inlaws are on their way back down here again today...long story...they will probably be here soon. I wanted to clean the house today since I feel okay but it looks like that won't be happening. I also need to wash clothes. GRRR! x(

We are supposed to take a ride up north for dinner tonight but I can always send DH with Joey and stay home to do what I gotta do later...

Okay, I'm done babbling. Sorry, had no time to really read the threads so I can't respond to them.

TTYL!:)

Charlotte - I usually just watch them until they are tender. I believe it is around 25 to 30 minutes at 375.

Becky - you've been holding out on me!! That tropical concoction sounds wonderful. Alright what else do you have up your sleeve? :)

Ha Jane!

Not meaning to hold out on you...ha. I just try different combinations all the time and sometimes am pleasantly surprised!:p

My favorites are the watermelon one, the chocolate/chocolate mint one and now your apple one! But I have tried all sorts of different flavors . If you put in banana's , strawberries and pineapple (plus milk and some splenda) you have what tastes exactly like a banana split! I love peanutbutter, especially with bananas or chocolate....that's a yummy smoothie too.
If everybody shares their favorites, we will have unlimited smoothie choices!!!:9

Lunch (dinner) was too good, but none of you showed up!
I ate a piece of perch, some spinach, a big salad w/o dressing, a piece of corn on the cob , no butter. And I passed on the strawberry ice cream!! Of course then my mom sent me home with (my weakness and one of the only CANDIES that I love, CANDY CORN!!!!!! ACKKKKKKK) Why do mom's always want to FEED you????

Now I need to get cleaning my house!

Becky,

My mom does the same thing! She sends my dad out to the grocery store if we are going to visit her or even if she comes to our place with dad. She comes in with at least 4 bags of chips, cookies and candies. I still have bags of chips and soda from last time she stopped by. She is coming over again this weekend. I have been munchin' on those friggin' pringles she got for DD. See, if it is in my house...depending on what it is, I will eat it...I HATE THAT! I buy very bland stuff when I shop for groceries. No treats. My children are deprived until grandma comes over! LOL!

Charlotte~~

I agree Becky, I love to experiment and the combinations endless. We'll share our hits!! The banana split one sounds great. I'm gong to start writing these down. I already make a choc PP, banana, and natural PB one that tastes sinful but isn't!!

Charlotte - like you, I have to keep it out of the house. Doing very very good though, on day #24 of clean eating and no bingeing!! I can hardly believe it. This week will be the true test as it is right before I start and disaster has struck every month at this time. I am determined to hold onto my streak though!!!

Charlotte & Jane (and everyone else of course)

My mom and dad live across the street, and my mom is a FANTASTIC cook and baker so it is a constant temptation! They belong to all kinds of groups and clubs and she bakes for all of them and then sends over the leftover cakes, cookies, brownies, etc.. to our house! Last week she was experimenting with different stew recipes and we "taste tested" for her all week long! Everynight she called and said another stew was ready and I'd run over and pick up a big bowl of the latest kind! ACK! I could easily take one bite and that's all, since I am not a big meat eater, but some of the things are just too hard to pass up!
I love my mom and I love her food but I wish it wasnt' out there tempting me all the time!!!

Good going Jane on your clean eating. Exercise is rarely the problem for me, but EATING always is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Becky.. I'd be in trouble for sure if I were in that situation. My MIL is a fantastic cook and she actually tries to cook pretty healthy these days since she found out she was a diabetic and DH's stepfather has been a diabetic for years. She still makes an ungodly amount of treats that are impossible for me to pass up at Christmas and Thanksgiving, but especially Christmas. DH is overweight and I can't get him to eat right when away from home, he travels on his jobx( x( He says it is the only time he gets "real food":+ I "kill" him with healthy food at home! I've told him before I'm trying to keep him alive longer but sometimes I wonder why!:p :+

Hello again Ladies,

Wow Becky I THINK you are lucky to have a cool relationship with your parents. If mine lived across the street from me I would have to shoot myself. :) A mother that can cook healthy well even better! I know the temptations of the treats would get to you though. I love candycorn! Ever had the little candy pumpkins that tast kinda like candy corn? Made by bracks I think. Anyway those are good too!

You ladies are making me hngry with the apple smoothie. I may actually BAKE!! Well apples that is :)

Charlotte- so glad to see you here today. How goes the workouts and the cleaning? I have done HSTA and still have to run later. Kim and I are doing coremax soon.

Wendy-WOW that is way too much company :) Hope thst you are feeling better.

Terri

I AM very lucky and I know it. My parents lived in Illinois for 20 years and had a home they loved and tons of friends, but sold their house and moved here 3 1/2 years ago for me. For many years my grandmother lived with them and was sick herself, so when I was diagnosed with cancer they didn't want to uproot her, but when she died they came. They even bought a house they had never been inside of just because it was close! I had had surgery and they came to help and saw the for sale sign in the yard. They went home and talked about it and mom called one Saturday morning and said they were buying the house across the street and moving here so they would be nearby to help!!!!!
AMAZING, huh?
For those who don't know (and that may be all of you), I was dx'ed with thyroid cancer 8 years ago when I was 34. I had surgery , treatment, surgery ,& treatment again, before they finally realized I had a kind that did not respond to the only treatment (radioactive iodine), and surgery was my only option, I was sent to a specialist (for hard to treat cancers) in Columbus and he has gotten me MUCH better.I've had 5 surgeries & I do still technically have cancer, butI am lucky enough that we are just "watching" it and if it grows, I'll have surgery again.
Everytime I have to go to Columbus, Dad offers to drive me, and Mom cooks for our family. When I had surgery the last couple of times, my sister flew in from Colorado and stayed with me in the hospital in Columbus and mom cooked for the family and helped me recover when I got home!
Okay, I've written a book.....sorry about that. But I AM blessed to have my parents do all of that just for me and I try never to forget that!

:)

Becky-I was not aware of that. How truly wonderful that your family is there for you! You are such a strong lucky woman and are blessed. I admire your strength and courage! Where in Colorado does your sister live? I live in Denver. Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Terri

Becky... your spirit is truly remarkable and what a wonderful family you have!! I, too, admire your strength and courage for what you've been through. Has your cancer been in remission for long? Fitness is a way of striking back isn't it? It is for me. I have rheumatoid arthritis and while it isn't fatal, so to speak, it is aggravating, to say the least, at times. Fitness is a way of taking control for me, is that the way it is for you?

I am so thankful this thread was started. I have gotten to know some really incredible women on this thread. Everyone of you are special.:)

Just to let you know, it is 6:40 p.m. and still 90 degrees so I am going to do my power walk now. I'm not waiting any later. I've already gotten my 200 walking lunges done and didn't have to stop!! I'll do the segment of StretchMax when I'm through with my walk.

Thank you Terri & Jane,

My sister used to live in Denver (lakewood) and I've visited her there, it is a BEAUTIFUL part of the country. Very different from Ohio! Now she lives in Grand Junction and I haven't been there yet.

Yes, fitness is a way of having some control ! I've had people ask WHY do I exercise everyday and work so hard to be fit and I think part of it IS to have control of at least part of your life (you sure can't control getting cancer or having it come back) and also to be in the best shape I can be...to fight the cancer and aging and any other illness that could come along!
I'm not in remission, I do have cancer right now but it's a small enough amount that unless it grows bigger it can't be removed. So the approach they've been taking with me is, when it's big enough, I go for surgery! One day I'm hoping to get the ALL CLEAR, but this is the next best thing. This type of cancer doesn't have a 5 year & you're considered cured thing either......you are carefully watched for the rest of your life and it's not uncommon for it to come back at any time, so they want to catch it early! Most thyroid cancers are easy to treat and are slow growing, but there are much more aggressive types too (which I do not have) and ones that are resistant to treatment (which I do have)...so that makes it a little bit more of a challenge.
I am very thankful for this thread too. And think we have shared a lot with eachother and I admire you all , am happy to have you for my friends and look forward each morning to "seeing" you. :)

Hey Becky... I know you are going to be closely monitored, don't ever let it slide, which I know you won't, you're too smart for that.

I've finished my walk, walked an extra lap which took it to 48 minutes by my HRM. I burned 257 calories which isn't bad for a walk but I was moving!!

I'm on my way to the living room now to do StretchMax, the one with the band since I just got my new 6 foot Dynaband. Then a shower, then relaxing.... awwww.... no work tomorrow!!! I'm off because I worked Sunday. I have an appointment with my rheumatologist in the morning at 9:45 a.m. so I'm setting my clock for 7 but I know I'll be awake long before that. Hopefully I can sleep a little later.

Wendy - we've missed you today. I hope you are feeling better. You've had to so much on you the last few weeks with the Christening preparations and all and then getting sick on top of that. I hope your absence from here means you are getting some much-needed rest.

Everybody must be busy with their lives this evening.

Talk to y'all later.

:)

Hello everyone.

Becky~I just read your post. I just have to say that you are a remarkable woman with a remarkable support system!

Hope everyone had a good day today. :)

I just finished Low Imp. Step and Coremax # 1. I went through the day and no real cold symptoms came back so I figured I'd give it a go. We shall see what impact, if any, it has on me tomorrow...then I'll know if it was a mistake! :p

DH went to dinner up north and ended up leaving Joey overnight w/his mom and sister. I will pick him up tmrw afternoon. People actually ASK to babysit him! It's INCREDIBLE! :+

I have to eat something...I'm not at my cal requirement yet.x(

TTYL!:)

Hi Guys.

I just read your post too. You are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family. And I admire your courage and strength. Cancer has taken more family members of mine than I can even count anymore.
I am so happy that you are healthy and are taking care of yourself.
Attitude has so much to do with recovery. I firmly believe that. I have witnessed it. May God bless you and keep you and your family healthy and strong.

Hey Wendy! Glad you're up and about! How nice for you too to have a sitter. :)

Hi Jane! How was the Dynaband? RS is coming tomorrow!! I'm psyched.:7

Well I'm off to meet my sponsor for a coffee to talk about things.;)
