Moderate Eating, Monday 3-20

SRP

Cathlete
Hi, everyone, and happy eating!

I'm off to the grocery store after work today. Dinner will depend on what I buy, because I don't have a thing planned and probably won't have time to cook! Anyhow, here's the rest of the day:

B - 2 slices PB ww toast, oj
S - raw carrot & tahini dressing; orange
L - three and a half bean casserole
S - orange, possibly a Cathe breakfast cookie, to hold me over until I get home from shopping
D - ??????

I finished reading Eat to Live this weekend. Very interesting. I'm going to begin making some diet changes, primarily including lots of greens, which I know I've been deficient in. Not sure how far into veganism I am going to go... it's still kind of a big deal to me.

Hi Shannon...and everyone!

I have a pork loin roast waiting to be cooked tonight. It was supposed to be Sunday dinner but we had unexpected company yesterday so did burgers on the grill last night instead and I made a batch of baked beans and potatoe salad. It was like a slice of summer. :9

So anyway, tonight is my favorite pork loin roasted in the oven...or on the grill weather permiting.

B=two eggs and one slice french toast(made french toast for kids)
S=yogurt
L=salad with a portion of grilled chicken breast mixed in.
S=pear, cheddar cheese, pistaschios
D=Pork roast, baked mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts and maybe carrots.

Loving the new treadmill. Today is weights...not sure which workout I'll do...MuscleMax or MIS or something else total body.

Shannon-
I agree it is fairly radical to change form a typical ableit fairly healthy diet with no restrictions to vegan. I am adapting but do not claim this to be my permanent choice. I'm just giving it a fair try.

Posting menus here seems redundent because I'm just varying my veggies, beans, fruit and spices etc. Below is the basic skeletan for this week.

B- Smoothie (with 1 scoop vegetable non soy protein powder, 2 c. fruit, 1 c. light soy milk, 1 TB gr. flax 1 ts. vanilla)

S- fruit if hungry

L- a bean or lentil soup with many veggies and varied spices

S- raw veggies and hummus or 2 fruits or a combination there of
D- a whole grain pasta (2 0z) or high fiber grain or potato, steamed or roasted veggies and very large leafy green salad
S- 1 oz. nuts (weighed!) if hungry or they may be eaten earlier in day if hungry.

PS- DH And I were at a function on Sat. where there was a chocolate fondue fountain. I didn't even want any. what's up with that? The large "^^" in veggies really does keep me full. I also am cutting out artifical sweetener in most items and doing OK but not perfect with it.

But, who knows what will happen with PMS time LOL!!!

ETA: Hi 40something!!

Hey, Judy -
I've been a vegetarian for years, but I'm a dairy lover. I'm willing to cut back on the cheeses for a while as the book advocates and see how that goes, but I really don't want to give up yogurt at this point. I haven't checked into soy yogurt yet. I am looking forward to lots of leafy greens though! Good luck with your try - the menu sounds good!

I was B-A-D last week overall. I need to get back on track this week. Last week was the week before/start off TTOM so I think that had some effect.

Here is today's plan:

B - protein shake, rice cake with natural PB
L - Subway sandwich & orange
S - apple
D - Steak & vegies
S - cottage cheese (if I workout tonight)

I intended to get up and walk/jog on the treadmill this morning but my alarm didn't go off :( so in order to make up for it I am going to walk the mall for 45 minutes (approx. 2 miles) and another 2 miles after work. Then I have an errand to run and after that if I get home in time I will do MM.

I hope you all have a great Monday.

Paula

Just curious, how many of you felt you lost weight or leaned out by going vegeterian or vegan? If not what was the goal of leaving meat out entirely and what do you feel better?

Paula

Hey, Paula -
It's been so long ago... but I don't recall losing weight when I went vegetarian. My main reason was ethical, you know, to save the animals. I'm trying this change now though to see if I can lose the stubborn stuff sticking to my thighs. As Judy said, it's time for a change, and I want to shake things up a bit - time to really clean up my diet and see what happens. Can I beat my genes? I hope so! :p

Hi new to the group and need some support!
I was bbbbaaaaadddddd over the weekend and uh am feeling the effects of bad food. I also did not workout at all! Not like me.
I am a new mommy of a 4 month old and have 10 lbs to loose. I eat pretty good during the day and the uh DH comes home and it all goes to pieces! I have a cookie thing going on and I must stop eating those at night, it's not a good thing. So today will be day #1 here goes:

B- Old fashion oatmeal w/bananna
S- Protein shake with 1/2 c skim milk, 1 c fruit and 1/2 c water
L- Grilled Chicken salad (yummy!)
S- Cottage Cheese and orange
D- Small salad, salmon, broccoil and 1/4 c brown rice

And NO cookies tonight!
Workout will be KPC w/out high intensity drills and
weight work for GS legs

Wish me luck today! No cookies!!!!

Pamela-
I was isnpired by my DD who asked if we could give up meat for lent, and by Carole who did so well with her body changes becoming vegan. Also Katheryn's knowledge shared on these threads is inspriring me to learn more about a vegan lifestyle. I admit I could loose a bit of my middle and wanted a change from previous plans.

But to answer your question, it is too soon yet for me to see results. I would ask Carole.
