Miss a workout/become a bear??

Cathlete
I had to miss my morning workout on Wednesday do to "this and that" happening in the family and boy was I ticked off all day. Talk about moody. Hubby probably won't let that happen again as I was downright crabby. And then this morning as I was doing Wednesdays workout I was a little crabby AGAIN knowing that I was a day behind. Last time I let this happen I worked out at night again to catch up. Working out just seems to keep the old attitude more positive and less fiesty (to say it nicely).

Anyone else have this problem??

Briee (a day behind and one cardio short)

I used to get that way, but I would get really angry and depressed and people were quite worried that I was becoming obsessed. My husband would say "Why are you so crabby!?!" and I'd say, "You made me miss my workout" (because of this or that, as you said). He'd say, "Sweety, it's okay to miss a day. You will have more energy tomorrow and your joints will be rested." He was right. But interrupt me once I've started my workout - and all hell breaks loose!!!!

Jillybean, what a sweet and educated response from your dh, and I know he IS right, it's just a mental thing that I have to conquer AND your 100% right...the only thing that makes me more of a bear is when I'm interupted after it's begun. Never mess with a determined mom in the morning when she is under stress (i.e.low end lunges)....our children have posted on the weight room door "INTERUPT AT YOUR OWN RISK, BUT REMEMBER MOM'S HOLDING A WEIGHT IN HER HAND!!" (They are very bright children and I love them dearly :)!!)

Briee:

I have this issue myself. Why? because my chief reasons for working out is for endorphins and mental well being. I just plain ol feel better when I get my workouts in.

I enjoy doing them too and that's a bonus since I feel so much better when I'm done as well.

Working out is my hobby I look foreward to it and when something keeps me from it I'm dissapointed.

Brie,
I can sooo relate! I posted a post last week about Circuit Max & how it saved my day. I had missed my morning workout that I was soooo ready for then, I wound up almost missing my evening workout. I had EXACTLY one workout to get a total body workout in due to a million things going on at our house that evening. Circuit Max did the job and made me feel soooo much better.

I find that if I plan to workout and am counting on it and then something happens that keeps me from it I am definitely a bear! However, sometime (let me reiterate the SOMETIMES) if I know I am going to miss a previously planned workout I can deal. I do get grouchy though. I think it is so true about the endorphins. I am in SUCH a better mood within 20 minutes of being into my workout! I think it's my favorite thing of working out entirely!

You are NOT alone:)

Ummmm...yup, yup! When I've missed a workout, hubby usually knows. He'll say, "Did you work out today?" LOL When I'm cranky, he knows I've usually not worked out yet. :-mad

Ohmigosh! I can't believe this! Me too! And given my past exercise habits, most of the people who love me are actually sort of expecting the opposite, expecting me to be grouchy when I DO exercise, not when I don't. It's so weird to hear, "Mom, do you need to go for a bike ride?" instead of, "Mom, do you want me to call the pizza truck?" But much better this way.

God yeah! I think we must be addicted. I do get grumpy if I don't work out. I schedule my workouts around a social life and instead of doing something on certain days, I will schedule so many times a certain week - I am on PS rotation right now and I have to do PS all of it in the week or else I feel as though I have failed somewhere or missing out.

Missing workouts!

...then you ladies can imagine how I have felt for the last MONTH! (And I was doing sooo good! :-(...that muscle memory better kick in!)

I have been unable, not unwilling, to exercise...my baby was sick for a week with bronchitis then he was hospitalized for 4 days (they still don't know what he had!)...it took me a week to recuperate from all that exhaustion and stress which included sleeping at the hospital...then I got bronchitis, and then lots of TTOTM cramps/pain...then the baby got a chest VIRUS this week...now, when I attempt to get up to exercise, my baby starts whining/coughing at 2:00 a.m. and we have to get up a few times to check on him since he is coming out of that virus! My goodness! Talk about cranky! Oh, and don't even mention my first grader's and kindergartner's HOMEWORK!!!! I should be going nuts by now!

Oh well. On Monday I officially start my treadmill / Cathe workouts, which my husband is going to attempt to sleep through at 3:45 a.m. since the treadmill is in our bedroom! :) Then PH..then..

I know I will be "walking like a duck" next week. Pray for me!

RE: Missing workouts!

Oh Runathon, right after I posted this my 7 month old daughter along with the rest of the family contracted a bronchial virus. She is now up all night scaring me to death with a croupy cough. Our home is like a big steam room, in an attempt to keep her breathing okay. I definitely feel for you. Yes muscles have memory and we'll encourage you back on track when this stressful time in your life has stabilized!! That is so tough and we'll be praying for you and please pray for my little people as well. Thanks!!!!

Bronchial Virus

Yup, that's the one! That bronchial virus is all over the place! My 7 month old got 102 degree fever for 2 1/2 days and could not sleep through the night. Praise God that the other two children did not get it! My goodness...I don't know how I would have handled that! :)

You know what is funny..

I have been out of commission this week with a cold and have only worked out, if you can call it that, maybe 2 times in the last 9 days. I feel like I have a brand new body!!! Seriously, in previous posts I have talked about my legs burning when climbing stairs, even 1 flight, and I have found that after this long rest I can climb stairs without the slightest discomfort. Makes you realize the effects of high intesity exercise. I guess my legs are always chronically tired, huh??

Anyway, went for a short bike ride today but am feeling better, so tommorrow it looks like a trail run and a Cathe strength tape.

Missing workouts isn't always a negetive thing!!!

Yep, that's me! I love to work out first thing in the morning. It just sets the day off to a great start. On those nights my kids have me up and I over sleep or those days that just are too crazy, I am a monster to be around. My daughter even notices and when I apologize for being crabby she'll say" that's okay Mommy, I know you just need to get your exercising done!"
Now, on my "off" days I'm nice but WATCH OUT if I miss a scheduled workout! :-mad
Take care! Susan

I had some viral thing 2 weeks ago and it made me so weak I was sleeping most of the time! Wasn't even eating much too. But it was sooo frustrating being so weak all of a sudden! My cardio endurance was the best it's ever been and I was doing power yoga and pilates and abs and PS right before it hit me. I was very stubborn and managed to do PS during the two weeks and the minute I felt ok...I went and did CK (which nearly killed me) and RS 2 days later ( which nearly killed me ) so this week it has been PS with just one cardio. I realize that rest is important when you're ill and it drove me insane. I started to wonder if I had exercise bulimia or some sort of body dysmorphic syndrome because I swear I could see my keg grow bigger by the minute when I couldn't do any cardio. I was so mad at myself ... I started cleaning the apartment. It reminded me of this anorexic patient in the community that used to try to burn off calories by cleaning at 3 am. That scared me when I realized maybe it is an obsession.
