Mircette

Hi Mommies!!

I am not a mom (yet), we are going to start trying in May. Well, for now, my insurance company no longer covers my old birth control pill (Loestrin) and my doc switched me to Mircette.

I know everyone's body is different, but I wondered if any of you have been on Mircette before and, if so, did you have any negative reactions to it? I am kind of afraid because I have been on my old pill for 7 years...Anyway, thanks for the help.

PS - When did anyone get off the pill before they starting trying for babies??

THANK YOU!!!!

Jenni

Hi Jenni!

I'm afraid I don't have much to offer regarding the side effects of Mircette. You are correct that everyone responds uniquely to the various pills. For example, I have prescribed Ortho Tricyclen for clients with complaints of acne. In many women, this pill actually improves acne, but this is not always the case. Hopefully, it will be a smooth transition (typing with my fingers crossed for ya). :)

As for TTC, most docs recommend waiting 3 months before you try. Don't panic if it happens sooner.

Take care!

Autumn,

Thank you for your help. Three days in and nothing different yet. My husband is waiting nervously to see what my hormones decide to do!? HA

Anyway, take care and thanks again. Have a great holiday.

Hi Jenni,

I was switched to Mircette several years ago after being on something else (can't remember what) for about 5 or 6 years -- I believe my doctor recommended it because it was lower dose than what I was using previously.

The only difference I noticed was a slight change in my period the first month and that was about it. Everything else was pretty normal.

HTH :)

Hi,
I had been on the pill for years before trying for my first child. My Dr. told me to wait 2 cycles and thats what I did. Then I got pregnant on our first try after 2 cycles. I have never tried mircette though. I was on ortho tricylclen which I think is significantly higher dose.

Thanks everyone! Gayle, I am glad to hear Mircette didn't make you crazy or bloated. That is what happened to me when I was orginally on a higher dose. I have been on low-dose pills for years and I just get a light period, which is great for me. Well, now I will stick with Mircette and see what happens. Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know when I should go off the pill. Can't wait!

Jenni,

You are welcome. I wasn't very clear regarding the waiting period for TTC. I should have written most docs recommend waiting 3 cycles... more specifically menstrual cycles. Some will let you count your first bleed during the pill free week as cycle 1. As mentioned, your doc may recommend waiting fewer cycles. Again, I want to stress that if you become pregnant immediately after stopping the pill or even on the pill, there is no increased risk for problems with the pregnancy/baby. The reason for recommending women wait is to improve accuracy of dating the pregnancy. '

Happy holidays to you too!
