miracle product to remove odors

I posted a week or so ago trying to get the smell of cigarette smoke out of a used treadmill. I tried vinegar and water solution and Febreze, and they helped but not enough. So when the treadmill was inside the house, the smell of smoke eventually (overnight) filled the whole room. Before totally giving up, I poked around online and found what I now consider to be a miracle product. It's called Ozium, available at auto parts stores, and was designed to get the smell out of cars (fabrics as well as hard plastics). I treated the treadmill last night, and this morning, the smell was gone! Even when I put my face right up to the belt!

Just thought I would share, in case anyone else has any persistent odor issues. Yay, now I can use a treadmill again!

Glad you found a solution (cigarette smoke reaks so much, and permeates everything!).

I've used Ozium in the past to spray around litter boxes. Maybe I should pick up some more.

I'll be filing this info away for my next odor challenge! (They do seem to have a way of cropping up...)
Thanks!
Allison

Would this work on cat urine odor in carpet, do you think?
Nancy,
I'd recommend either "Anti Icky Poo" (you can get it from Amazon : on the label, it claims to remove dead body scent, as well as other odors!) or PureAyre (also on Amazon). Anti Icky Poo has several kits for various problems, and they even offer carpet injectors (like hypodermic needles to inject the stuff far down into the carpet). If you've tried other methods first, you have to neutralize the area (as the other cleaner could kill the bacteria in AIP that kills the odor) and would have to get the kit containing the P-Bath (on Amazon).

With any method, you have to make sure to soak all the way through the carpet, into the layer underneath. If it's bad, you may have to pull back that area of the carpet and treat the floor underneath as well. (That's the only way my parents were ever able to get out urine odor from one of our cats years ago).

You're just full of great information -- thanks for the suggestions!

Not to hijack this thread, but since you asked about cat pee odors in carpet, I can tell you that THE BEST product out there is from www.justrite.com, called 123 Odor Free. I've been using it for about 3 years with my aging cats and it WORKS!!!

I'm sorry but I've been down this route 100 times with a cat who peed on the carpet. I have tried every product out there, every suggestion I ever found and NOTHING removes the odor of cat urine but replacing the carpet (and possibly the cat! lol!). You may reduce it but on a nice humid day it will come back for a visit. ;)
