Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. This year really makes us appreciate all the veterans and active service people and the incredible sacrifices they and their families make for this awesome United States!

Any opinions on Mindy's tapes such as Interval Express, Extreme Intervals, Strength Express, and Action Packed?? It seems as though her style is Cathe-like just from the descriptions in Collage catalog. I am always disappointed in others styles other than Cathe's when I venture out since discovering her tapes! However, I am curious as to all your opinions since your are part of the Cathe fan club. I know that I can trust your evaluations concerning cuing, choreography, intensity, music, and any possible corniness(which we don't get from Cathe, thankfully!) Also, where is the best online place for bargains on the body bar and medicine ball?

Oh, and to close why doesn't Cathe receive more media attention? Various instructors receive accolades for IDEA instructor of the year....Kathy Smith, Kathy Koehler, and Denise Austin appear in Self magazine or the Today Show( more so the former two instructors)!! Come on where is Cathe's more frequent public recognition? She truly is the ultimate kick butt, dedicated to her fans, no silly workout that wastes your precious time instructor!! Sorry, didn't mean to stand on a soap box, but I've just noticed this and thought I'd vent. What do you all think?
Thanks in advance for the educated feedback!
IMAX here I come...soccer ball...golf ball...marble...well, does a piece of lint count? Sometimes, the quads are pleading and crying for mercy by that interval!!

Hi China,

I was all psyched to try Mindy because I've read so many great things about her workouts. I ordered four videos from her recently, Strength Express, Interval Express, Action Packed and Slammin' Sports. I was not impressed. Strength Express was kind of different and neat but I felt it alot in my knees so I stopped doing it. She has you do these one legged squat things with a bar and a paper plate and I just don't think they are good for my knees or anyone knees for that matter. But the workout is tough and unique. But for strength I will stick with power yoga and cathe weights. Slammin' Sports was awful. The cueing was horrendous and I just didn't care for the workout at all. I traded Strength Express and Slammin' Sports recently. Action Packed is ok, I kept it and I'm sure I'll use it sometimes. I also kept Interval Express. This is really the only one that I like. It is pretty good. Definitly not as hard as Interval Max but very fun and a tough workout. I don't know about where to get a bar or ball online. I bought my 6lb medicine ball at Target for $25. I guess if I knew that I was going to trade Strength Express and just keep Interval Express I probably would not have ordered it and been forced to spend $25 on a medicine ball. I wouldn't say it's a workout worth $45, but it is good nontheless.

Bottom line, in my opinion, Mindy is nowhere near as good as cathe. Every strength and cardio video I have ordered that was not by cathe has been somewhat disappointing. But alot of people rave about Mindy and seem to love her, so I guess to each her own!

HI China,
I ordered one of her videos before.I think it is called extreme intervals. Now, I must say, the tape is not to bad.I mean it isn't cathe and I find that I don't enjoy any other tapes for that particular reason. But she did make me sweat. And I don't feel as if I am having a good work out on less I sweat.
I can remember first when I started doing some of Cathe's tapes and I would be soaking wet after. The tapes don't have the same effect on me anymore though, I guess your body just get used to it.But I still sweat the same as a normal person.lol
MIndy is way more energetic then Cathe, and I am not saying that in a good way.It seems as if she could be on some sort of medication..lol.I did enjoy the video but I don't know why I haven't thought about buying another one from her.
I always seem to be disappointed in tapes that I think are going to be really good and when I get them they suck.Only because I am use to Cathe and I think that she is the BEST.
I don't know why Cathe doesn't get the recognation that she deserves.Maybe she doesn't want it.Maybe she didn't apply for IDEA instructor of the year. But she is way better then the ones who have been named it.Denise Austin..I perfer to leave her...Tamilee Webbe was good in her day....Kelli Roberts...NAH.....Kathy Smith..I do enjoy some of her videos but they are never long enough for me.I always have to put them with another video, like one of the CTX videos, to get a good work out.
ANyway, for the majority of the time, when I can;t do Cathe tapes, or if I am waiting for new ones.I just run.
Oh, I have also ordered videos from Karen VOight, and I haven't been impressed with those either.

I prefer Cathe's workouts, but I enjoy Mindy's for some variety. I think that the intensity of Mindy's workouts is high, but her chattiness gets to me. I put up with the chattiness because I feel like I get a good workout with her tapes, though - her workouts are very different than Cathe's and I feel they are great for cross-training. Mindy's cueing is not that good, the choreography is athletic and easy to follow (except for Action Packed which is a little more complicated) and I think her music is better than Cathe's generally. Of the workouts you mentioned, I have Interval Express and Action Packed and like them both a lot - personally I like Interval Express more. I also like Slammin Sports Cardio (2K02) and Mindy's Boot Camp.
I definitely would recommend Mindy as a fun, intense alternative to Cathe.

So funny this topic should come up as I just got Extreme Intervals in the mail yesterday. I've only previewed it, I won't actually do it until Saturday since I want to do the entire 100 min. It looked pretty good, I am just looking to add some good interval workouts to my collection so that I can do 2 a week, Imax of course always being 1 of the 2! :)
Glad to hear that Extreme Intervals seems to be one that is liked, I'll post back after I actually try it.

Body Bars

Hi Kristie S.

I got my body bar online at www.fwonline.com

I got their Challenge Pro Bar, which is less expensive than the Body Bar, but basically the same item, just different name.
I got an 18# Challenge Pro Bar for like $20.

Oh, I love Mindy, and my favorite is Extreme Intervals. OK, maybe her cueing isn't as good as Cathe's, but I don't get worked up about that. Her music is good, she's funny and I really like the differences in her and Cathe. Mindy is more athletic and it makes me feel like I'm training for a sport. That's Mindy's 'thing'. Mindy does alot of interval stuff and that's my favorite type of workout. She doesn't take any of it too seriously, but she is really tough. When Mindy talks to you, you can tell that she's so comfortable. The intro doesn't sound scripted.

It's all about cross-training and variety.

Hi,
I am male & I love Mindy.I do admit her cueing is not the greatest, her production quality is poor but I enjoy myself tremendously.I find I get a great workout.Variety is important and it's difficult to find good homeworkouts.I love bootcamp and I have her old videos that she sells for $10.00.They are very bad production but I enjoy sport step, Jump & jab etc...I get a laugh.I too have also wondered why Cathe does not get the recognition she deserves. Why isn't she instructor of the year ? I have never heard of the latest one Petra.I still have not found any male instructors who work you hard like Cathe & Mindy.I get tired of Billy Blanks and I occasionally do Gilad but it doesn't compare.
see you

I love Mindy!! She's the only instructor that makes me crack up laughing during a workout, her comments are comical. I also love her music. I agree her cueing isnt as great as Cathe's, but whose is?? Her style is definitely athletic-interval based. I think her workouts are as intense if not more so than Cathe's, mostly b/c of the intervals and the fast pace of some of her videos. I think one of her simplest is Action Packed, it has some fun choreography. I also really like her Slammin Sports cardio. I think some people tend to like more athletic moves and others more dancey. I'm definitely in the former camp. I bought a few Christi Taylor videos and got rid of them all...pivots, cha cha's and mambo's make me shudder. So, if you're into athletic moves I'd definitely give Mindy a try.

I think Mindy is a real hoot. She's funny, but my laughing is usually muffled by sweat. Her workouts are different--they have a real sports orientation and seem very playful--she uses balls and bars and agility drills...and things don't have to be exactly perfect in her cardio workouts, which is a nice change sometimes.

Hi Guys and Dolls!

A lot of you like Mindy's Extreme Intervals. I'm thinking of getting it. I've done all of Cathe's tapes a thousand times and need to add another intense routine. A couple of questions please.

Does Extreme Intervals take up much space? I bought her Slammin Sports video and was frustrated because of my lack of space. I had to continually shift my step, and even then, it didn't work -- aggravating. (I am able to do all of Cathe's step tapes without shifting my step more than once).

Also, does Mindy stop and dismantle the step often, like she does in Slammin'? I don't have the patience for stop/start/stop videos. Also, I'm just not into football drills that have you running an obstacle course. I don't generally find my heartrate go up with all those shuffles - to me, they are "resting" periods. And the fact that I'm going to trip over something fills me with anxiety (I already have my own obstacles -- three cats!).

Is Extreme Intervals like Interval Max and Gin Miller's Intense Moves? I love the pace and style of those tapes. Nice, big, athletic, no-nonsense power moves. Smooth and "tight" transitions.

It's really too bad about Slammin' Sports. When I viewed the tape I really loved Mindy's personality. But with all those changes in routine -- Oy! She started getting annoying because I was so vexed.

So any input on Extreme Intervals would be appreciated!

Oh, and a P.S. about why Cathe doesn't get her just rewards in the fitness video industry. I'm pretty sure it's because her product is not sold in record and video stores and is not backed by a mega-company -- Reebok, for example. She also would need a PR manager to get her out in the spotlight -- the talk show circuit, fitness magazines, infomercials, the Shopping Channel, etc. Cathe would have to be "plugged" like Kathy Smith, for example. In other words, she'd have to give up a big chunk of her private life.

Anyways, that's my guess!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Patricia

She's a Hoot.

Mindy makes me laugh--although I find her workouts un-even in terms of cuing and safety. Another poster told about paper plates and wierd moves. I agree. I would be very careful trying to do Everything Mindy shows on a tape...but, I like her. Slammin Sports being my favorite of hers. Murph
