Microdermabrasion and Jessner's Peel

I have read about these procedures, just wondering if anyone has had them done and how it was, results, etc. Thanks, Pam:)

I am an esthetician and microdermabrasion is a mechanical peel that gently removes dead skin cells from the surface. It shoots out sand like crystals and at the same time vacumes the crystals and the dead skin cells up. It reveals a smoother fresher complexion.
jessner's peel is a chemical exfoliaton which has a similar effect as micro, but basically burns off the top layer of skin which then needs to peel off.
Jessner's Peel can be a little painful because it burns. You can take a tylenol before.
Microdermabrasion doesn't hurt at all.

Hi Lizzy, I wanted to know with the Jessner's Peel does your face look really bad afterwards, or is it just a little bit of flaking? Also can you get both at the same time? Just needed to know how much downtime, also if you just got the microdermabrasion done how many times do you need to do it and what kind of results can you expect? What would you recommend? Thanks, Pam

Pam,
With the Jessner's peel, your skin can look alittle brown (almost burnt) It's usually more than flaking, the skin peels in larger pieces. You might need a few days of downtime. Also, everyone is different on their reaction. Depends on skin texture, how high the % of peel and how long the Dr, leaves it on.
You definetly cannot do both at the same time!!!
Microdermabrasion needs no downtime, your skin will look sunburned or windburned. With microdernabrasion I recommend a series of 7 or 8 once a month and then once ever 2-3 months to maintain results.
With both, you need to be extra gentle to your skin. Absolutely so sun at all!!!!!! You will damage your skin!
Hope that helped!

I've had microdermabrasion and Micropeels (Glycolic acid). My skin responded much better to the microdermabrasion.. it looks so fresh and smooth afterwards... and feels great! It helped my laugh lines and the lines on my forehead (too much squinting thanks to my poor eyesite).

The schedule was a little different than what Lizzy mentioned. I had peels every 2 weeks X 6, then I went to every 3 weeks, every 4 weeks, etc. I SHOULD go every 8 weeks for maintenance but I get behind sometimes. I can tell when I need to go. The procedure feels like a cat's tongue. My aesthetician offered me lidocaine cream to apply to my skin before my peel, but it wasn't necessary.

I take an antiviral before my procedure because I have a history of cold sores. The office I go to also does dermaplaning before the microdermabrasion. Hope this help!

I answered that several hours ago without thinking. Later, I realized you probably meant specifically how did I get RetinA from Europe. Someone actually buys it there and brings it in for me. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Lizzy, I needed to know what do you mean by "burnt" and how long does that usually last. I was looking to get the lowest % of the peel, I already have had 2 micro derms done and they were fine, they want to do a Jessner's Peel next, I talked to the doctor and the aesthetician and she said she has it done and you did peel probably 48 hours after, but she said she didn't peel in large pieces, a lot of flakes. She has reassured me that she really thinks I will like it, as they have said my skin is in pretty good condition, I'm almost 40. I keep researching it on the web and am trying to get everyone opinion on it, I'm just a little apprehensive, it sounds a little scary. What is the difference between the gylcolic peels and the jessners and is jessners better. Thanks for any help, Pam
