Hi Michele. :)

I know that you hate cardio ;), so I wanted to ask you how you plan out your strength workouts, do you follow a rotation? Alot of Cathe's cardio is too advanced for me right now (especially choreography wise) though I do like Basic Step/KPC. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for all strength/cardio of choice routines.

Thanks.

Hi Kathleen,

First of all, I've received so much help and knowledge and support from the people on these forums--it's just unbelievable! I hope some of the other fine women (and men) will add their 2 cents. Believe me when I tell you, I'm just winging it here!

Strength training and flexibility have always been my strong suit in the past, but I'm afraid I've slipped on all counts recently. Up until about a year ago I had been working with a personal trainer in a gym and didn't have much in the way of exercise gear at home. I've had to start from scratch and I've been slowly adding to my equipment.

So, in answer to your question, right now my plan is to do 2 full body strength workouts per week with 5 to 6 days of cardio. For cardio, I'm mixing some Cathe with Leslie Sansone, Michelle Dozois, and Charlene Prickett. I'm not following a rotation yet but I might at some point. I don't have many of Cathe's DVD's yet either--just her beg/int and the one with Power Hour.

Today I did the High Step Circuit DVD but I bumped up the weights. I haven't done PH in eons and that would probably be tough for me right now so I'm going to stick with the beg/int stuff for the time being.

I intend to follow this plan for 5 or 6 weeks then re-evaluate. I'll probably keep the cardio about the same but bump up the weights to 3 days a week with one day of upper body, a day of lower body, and a total body day. That's basically what I'd been doing with my PT.

ETA that I have a hard time with step, too. One of the reasons I chose HSC was because the step portion is in 1 or 2 minute intervals and I can handle most anything if it's just for a minute--LOL! Most of the cardio I do is low impact floor work.

HTH and I hope some other folks will chime in here with what they're doing.

Michele:)

Michele,

Look at what you said....

"ETA that I have a hard time with step, too. One of the reasons I chose HSC was because the step portion is in 1 or 2 minute intervals and I can handle most anything if it's just for a minute--LOL! Most of the cardio I do is low impact floor work."

Do you know what this means?

This means that YOU must whip out that credit card and order Boot Camp NOOOOOOW! Boot Camp is BASED on doing things for "JUST A MINUTE" and you said yourself that you can do it!

GO FOR IT!}(

Thanks Michele. :) I think High Step Circuit will be my next purchase, I've been eyeing that one. :+

Another suggestion...actually two suggestion's...

1) Crosstrain Series. The workouts are all 20/30 minute cardio portion's so not long and they are very doable...not difficult choreography (I will say however that I don't like the All Step workout). Plus you get weight workout, abs, and Leaner Legs.

2) High Step Challenge. The cardio portion's in HSCh are short. It must be very similar to HSCircuit in format. I really like HSChallenge.

Just something to think about when pondering your next purchase. Bootcamp is a great workout too.

Hey 40something---50something here. I appreciate the recommendations and I'll take them under advisement. I think my body is still in shock from HSC--LOL! I do like crosstraining, though. My former PT used to work up the most amazing crosstraning w/o's! I like that you can get your cardio and strength work done at the same time. Always one to economize!

Actually, I've looked at CTX a million times. I'll probably end up with it before too long. Bootcamp? Now that's an entirely different story. I think there's way too much high impact in there for me.

I don't like all step work outs, either. I'm just not good at them. It's not my thing. One thing is for certain, there's no shortage of work outs to choose from.

Michele :)
