Met value attribution

I don't know if it's the right place ( maybe Ask Cathe was a better choice)... But each and every time I do wait for a new series to be in my hands, this question comes to my mind : I would really like to know how you can attribute the MET value for a workout, which has become an important information to me, especially through the years. I think I have learnt so much about fitness thanks to your newsletter that I would really appreciate to know even this "behind the scene" part of the process.
If it's explained in other parts of the forum , sorry to have posted the same question twice.
Can't wait for the new dvds... hoping to hear good news soon and start the new year with the Fit-Split rotation!

I can't answer this, but I think it is a great question! Last year, my boys got me a heart rate monitor for Christmas, and I am always amazed that the calories calculated by the monitor are always within a handful of the calories posted on the Workout Manager. Very impressive that they are able to work that out so closely.

Hi Ellie, the Met values we list are just our best guess based on generic Met tables that you can find online. Since everyone trains differently and at their own intensity, MET values are only best guesses. They can give you at least a good idea of how hard you're working out, but they also do have a high degree of inaccuracy.

As for our newsletter we've done over 2500 articles now with majority coming from research we've done reading various fitness, medical and nutrition journals. It's an ongoing weekly process, but we try to have all weekly articles put in "final form" on Friday and then Published in our Blog on Sunday and our Newsletter on Monday.

Thank you for your reply! In any case I do agree with Carrie: if they are your best guessed, they are very well guessed! And, let me add one extra compliment for your newsletter: as a pharmacist, the first thing I would go for when I read an article is bibliography and I do appreciate your including this at the end of each issue you publish.
