Maybe a goofy '?' - would love input-.re:upstairs workout room

Cathlete
Hi and thanks to any all that take the time to give me some input.:)

Okay, currently my workout room is in an upstairs bedroom that is over our den. I picked this room over the basement because I didn't want to workout on concrete (I know I could fix this problem),I was afraid of possible water damage to my things...think 32' tv!... and finally because of sometimes sighting 'furry critters' (currently working on this problem).

This issue is doing high impact up there. DH says I make some noise and actually came up there once to see what I was doing...one of Cathe's Kickboxing vids :) ... I know that at my weight (147 currently) I surely ain't gonna come thru the ceiling. Right?:-( :)

I do sometimes make the ceiling fan downstairs vibrate a little

I guess I'm looking for someone to agree with me that if there was a danger of doing damage to my house, the house is in pretty bad shape and oughta be condemned anyway...right?

But the house is not in bad shape. The upstairs boards creak in places but thats all.

Okay, I'm done. Again, thanks for any input.

Kim

You are too funny! I have NEVER heard of a Cathe fan starting out on the second floor with a workout and ending up on the first floor! :7 I truly doubt that you can do any dmage other then making noise. (I'm with you. I'd rather NOT workout with furry critters!)

Well, if it's any consultation, I too workout on the highest level of our house (one level higher than our bedrooms). In this room we have a home gym, leg press, treadmill, elliptical stepper (all gym quality), my 40lb bb, dumbbells 1 to 95 lbs. (in 5lb increments) Lots of weight plates and other misc. things (steps, balls...)
We do have some cracks in our ceilings here and there, but that's nothing but a thing to have all that stuff. :p

Kim if there is no one in the house but you and your dh and if he doesn't mind and your house is not going to come crumpling down by all means w/o till your heart's content.

But where I use to live, under my sister, she and her daughter would w/o and that use to ANNOY THE HECK out of me. All that stomping for over an hour and two at the same time......VERY VERY VERY ANNOYING. Going to them address the noise level to them was like talking to my cats.

I no longer live there been gone for months now, THANK GOD, but my sister has such a nasty attitude just b/c we were family she didn't think anything was wrong with the stomping.....I'M WAITING FOR THE NEW TENANTS TO MOVE IN, their definitely not family members.

Thanks everyone...

It's not the noise I'm worried about:7 I'm just wanting reassurance that I'm not heavy enuff to do any damage. DH says it would probably take years and years of continual jumping around, etc. by a much larger weight to eventually do anything ...except maybe that ceiling fan...I still ask him if he thinks I'm gonna tear it down!:7

I also only do high impact maybe 2x per week...notice I said 'maybe';)

I'm not gonna hurt anything but the noise levels, right??? :7

I had to laugh about the furry critters. I work out in our lower level. During the work out, I look over by the fire place and what do I see? A small mouse staring at me. It was half dead because it didn't run. YUK! I had to sweep it into a bucket and throw it in the outside garbage!

Kim,

I figure that an upstairs bedroom must be meant to have a bed, some furniture, lamps, books, and all sorts of other things. No way is a measly 147 lbs going to hurt the floor! Besides, when you are doing Cathe, doesn't feel like you are airborne at least half of the time anyway lol?

Kim,
My DH and I live over a retired pastor and his wife and so we try to work out when they are not home b/c that's easiest, they've only called us once (I was right near the end of MIC Hi/Lo and the high kicks were what did it!;-) )She said that her chandelier was swinging, but I don't think I could have been doing that much damage, eventhough we do live in a fairly old house. There's carpeting on the floor where I work out, so that might make a difference. I'm noisy, but not dangerous:* at least most of the time. LOL Don't worry about it, you aren't going to come through the floor!

RE: Maybe a goofy '?' - would love input-.re:upstairs w...

This isn't a goofy question at all because I worry about the same thing! I work out in the living room and the whole floor vibrates when I do high impact. On IMAX blasts I always move towards the couch because it seems to vibrate a little less there. If I get too close to the piano, the lamp on the piano rocks right off the edge. I am thinking about asking my husband to see if he can strengthen the floor on that side of the room somehow. Since we can access it from the basement maybe it's possible? Well, that and maybe I'll sell the piano too. That piano is really heavy so I guess that's what scares me the most. I feel so stupid worrying about it but it does cross my mind...

I've worried about the same thing. I get especially worried when doing tuck jumps. I know it's rattling downstairs - I can even hear it. I try to do "light" tuck jumps.
