master your metabolism

so i've had this book since it came out but just skimmed it. i decided to really start reading it and i find it facinating. i really do believe that the foods and products we use have an effect on our endocrine system/hormones. one of the big ones for me is the insulin response after i eat processed foods as well as all the cravings i get after i ingest artificial sweetners. anyone else read the book and incorporated some of her tips?

I just started reading it and it is very overwhelming! The information she gives is so abundant and it makes me want to throw out everything in my house and I am only in chapter 4!!! Have you read Drs Oz and Roisen's book, You: On a diet?

I read it through twice, the second time taking notes on the sections that pertain to my health issues. I incorporated a lot of her suggestions and it really helped my curb my hunger/starving feeling issues. I also found the estrogen section pertinent. I'm in menopause, and the more body fat I have, the more estrone my body makes which is a major fat storer. I had to tough it out for 3 months on a low calorie diet to get some of that fat off, and then the weight loss became much easier. Usually your weight loss is fast at first and then tapers off but for me its been just the opposite. The more fat I got off, the better my metabolism became to burn fat. Just like Jillian said. I'm a believer.

Hi Kari,

I'm sorry to be the bearer if bad news. Oh, is this book monumentally confusing!! I bought both of the books and agree that they are both equally complicated. I'm sticking with MyFitnessPal.com for tracking my cals in and out. I verify the calories out with Cathe's Workout Manager and they are pretty much in synch. I think from previous posts, you and I are on the same page... I don't like to obsess about how and when to eat what. This book takes all of that to a new level!! I'm going to be selling them through Amazon or E-Bay.

I like Southbeach personally. It works when I actually stick to it!! Have a great Saturday!!

Hi Kari,

OOOOOPPSS!! I thought you were talking about Conquering your Metabolism! Mea Culpa!! THAT book is insanely complicated. I personally have not read Master your Metabolism.

Please forgive me!

I read the book and thought wow! Then, I saw the movie "Food Ink," and that really hit home to me. As much as I really can't afford going to whole foods to grocery shop, I have lately and I honestly do feel so much better.

I was horrified to see what these people do to our food.

I had my thyroid removed in 1999.

no worries. i haven't read that one so thanks for the heads up about it. master your metabolism is a bit overwhelming with all the info. i plan on just changing one thing at a time within reason. one could get extreme by following the book to a "T" and i'm already a bit compulsive but i want to see how much of my cravings, moods, weight, is caused by my hormones as a result of the food i'm eating.
